hi heres my story,
first i was looking at the wpc 9 ball championships and saw in group 14 a familiar name hiroshi takenaka!
back to 1998-2000 i was in the airforce at yokota airbase.
i enjoyed the pool games off base and onbase at the club. i met some interesting people like charles dalton a guy who got a early retirement from the
military he actually worked at adams cues and he took me there once. their
custom cues they built for the pros were great. and another guy was retired
named don the japanese called him don-son. and he was really a great shot
he was actually trying to become a pro and what better place to live and play in
local tournaments getting great practice from house pros and really great japanese pool players. well he introduced me to a local tournament at a pool
room about 15 minutes from the base a local pro owned it named hiroshi takenaka! he wore a vest with a name tag. best little tourney ive ever played in
about 30 people.its a handicapped tournament. well the pro was a 9 asked don-son what shall we handicapp your friend and don-son said ah hes weak make him a 3.i ended up playing the pro straight off my first match and beat him like 3 to5 or something some luck involved. and takenaka was pissed he said to my friend something and i asked don what he said and don looked at me and said he said your a 4 next week.
boy let me tell you takenaka can play i saw him play someone and they played defense on him and he kicked 3 balls into the pocket in a row
thats my first time i saw anyone make 3 kicks in a row before. and he played someone for money playing one handed he can do it all. really a great pro!!
that group 14 i saw had the eventual champ wu along with shawn putnam what a strong group there!
