I realize that shipping and handling are very real expenses that must be factored into each business operating budget. I do not fault any businessman for charging for same. My problem comes with how the expense is passed onto the consumer. from what I have observed, this cost recoup is accomplished in a variety of ways. There are those that automatically add the aprox cost of handling by increasing the sales price and charging whatever the real cost of shipping is to the buyer. I like this approach. Some have a preset handling charge for all orders, and discounted or free shipping for orders over a certain $ amount.....fair but less desireable from my perspective. Then there are those that fall into my least favorite category, those that treat shipping and handling as an additional profit source. This is the type of dealer I try to avoid. The one that can send a tip in a standard envelope for less than a buck.....but charges $6.95 for shipping, or artifically inflates the handling charge to be able to advertise a lower purchase price. If your a businessman and employ enough people to have at least one dedicated to shipping and receiving.......how do you compute and recover these costs???
