A flat tip for breaking ???????

and what if you are a little off center? most aim for a little above center, and no one is perfect.

is .02 compression accurate for phenolic tips?

As the picture shows, you can miss center by quite a bit (+/_ .150) or maybe even more.

Please note>>> nothing was mentioned in my sketch, about phenolic...

Crack or chip what? There is no sharp edge on the tip, its not a razor edge and besides it is common knowledge that flatter tips are BEST for breaking.

thanks for the lesson... FLATTER not completely 90deg flat. maybe you should read back before you post

maybe this will help. waaaaaaay back on page 1

you want as little english on the cue ball as possible.. hence the flat tip

some say dime raduis some say nickel. well i use like a quarter on my break cues. not completely flat but barely round.

you will not get .020 deformation with a phenolic tip.
All that aside, I use a flat break tip , except it has 1/8 inch rad on the outer corners, so effectively there is only a 1/4 inch or so of flat area.Never had one fail yet, but I have not been in the buisness 20 uears either.
I just hit center Cb, If I wanted some english, then a radius on the tip would be a must. Then I use a superpro tip with about the rad of a 1/4 dollar.
