A New Focus On Cue Ball Position

Just something to think about in case anyone else is in my situation...

Obviously there are two elements to playing good shape on your next shot: Cue Ball Speed & Cue Ball Direction

In the past, most of my focus was on cue ball direction and speed control has taken a back seat. I'd often have the correct line on my shot but I'd be unnecessarily far away and make things harder on myself.

It wasn't until yesterday that I realized how much better my run out percentage would be if I just spent a little more effort on speed control. I decided that from now on I won't be afraid of coming up short or long on my leave. I will be trying to play perfect position on every shot white practicing. At first I'm sure I'll do a little worse but after a little time my game should be a lot better.

Hopefully this can help you too...good luck!

A cue ball only knows 3 things: 1) direction 2) spin 3) speed. And yes speed is the most important and toughest to master.

Hmm

Charlie Bryant (Hill Billy) put it to me this way "Gotta cover your ASS!) Angle, Spin, Speed. Like mentioned early, speed is the most difficult. I highly reccommend playing a little one pocket, it REALLY helps with speed and feel.

You forgot 4) scratching
There is a pool law that states "any gap or angle that is impossible for an object ball to get through will gladly accept a cueball".

Good one. I know the feeling only too well but that is part of speed control too. The toughest thing to master consistently.

Speed!

Danny D said it best "on every shot you have to decide if coming up long or coming up short is best". Once you determine which gives you the best chance of completing the run, your decision on position is clear.
