That doesn't sound like he described newpoolgame very well at all. "There are 15 balls, many ways to play" describes pretty the standard set of pool balls. "Solves a problem we've all had". That he didn't describe. I'm guessing it's the same "problem" that Triball.0 "solved".
 
I think it is naïveativity. Everybody has ideas, but conceiving the idea is the easiest part of the whole process of bringing something to market. Most people don’t know that.

It is like feeling you are about to send your son off to college, when in reality you saw a girl you think is pretty but haven’t even asked her out yet. There is a tremendous amount of work in between.

Creating hype from an idea instead of a market-validated functional prototype is a huge gotcha. You have to first be willing to make a prototype while keeping in the back of your mind it may all be throw-away-work. This is better than having your emotionally attached daydreams be thrashed as soon as it is presented to the public.

I think this is it. Ive been there. Get the idea, fall in love with it, and then hit the brick wall of Azbilliards reality.

In the end I learned a lot from such failures. Each one gets a little further until one succeeds. Not necessarily pool related in my case. Im building elsewhere too.
 
I have been an avid student of privately commissioned pool ball sets for the past twenty-five years… always with a view and ambition to see a design of my own make it into production one day.

I watched with dismay as set after set was created by intrepid entrepreneurs, only to prove an horrendously costly and stressful endeavour for each and every one of them.

It taught me some very important lessons…

One… disregard entirely one’s own personal favourites and remain within parameters of design that already have widespread proven appeal.

Two… pay whatever it costs to bring the production run down because, regardless your dreams and aspirations, trying to sell hundreds of sets will soon shatter one’s illusions.

Oh, and three, rather than run up extra costs from the manufacturer, pay a designer like me to prepare the detailed artwork beforehand!

We like to believe our boxes are amongst the finest of their kind ever made… solid walnut throughout, recessed brass hinges with stops, hidden magnetic closing and laser cut inserts. No expense was spared.

We’re quite secretive about revealing the craftsman, sir, because we’re keen nobody copies them. I can tell you that they are 100 percent American.

It would be a lie to say the foam insert was EVA for sure, Mr N, because I don’t know.

It might be… we instructed our box maker to use whatever material he considered most suited for the job regardless of cost and left the decision to his best judgment.
