A New Pool game...? Yes... Look inside...

OP, Please realize that coming up with an idea is the easiest part of the entire process.

It is like deciding that you want to date a particular type of woman, when your end goal is raising an Olympic athlete son.

Getting a new game to catch on in this sport takes way more than marketing and promotion. It takes an entire era of mythos that spans generations.

The closest one who came to being successful was my friend and coach Joe Tucker with American Rotation. That was a LOT of work.

You really need to come to the table with more than a promise sem videos to show it. Come back later with a prototype that is free to see.

Ha! I've been working on a new poolgame as well! In fact my youtube channel was called "a new poolgame". I'll share my findings.
I too think there is a new pool game out there that is "better" than the current classics (8, 9, 10 and 14.1). But finding a new pool game is a big challenge.

Why it’s a challenge:
1) the classics provide enough fun and challenge for players up to pro level.

2) pro players are elite at these games. This is what they do. There has to be a huge incentive to switch to another game they might not be very best at.

3) there's a lot of tradition and love for the classic games.

4) Bonus Ball flopped. Any new pool game has to first overcome "Bonus Ball scepticism". Part of why it did not succeed was they had a commercial goal and it rubbed people the wrong way. They (logically perhaps) wanted to make money selling a special set of balls, scoring machine and jerseys. I think it felt like making money was the main goal and making a new pool game was secondary.

In my opinion a new pool game can only succeed if:
1) The rules are simple, but provide lots of emergent strategy. Simple enough for barplayers to understand and have fun, while still providing depth for the very elite to find new strategies. Chess is the perfect example of such a game.

2) It has to have lots of interesting and exciting moments so that it is fun to play and fun to watch. Poker is a good example of such a game.

3) I think the game has to grow organically. When you're testing it ad nauseam with a bunch of people, they should leave enthusiastic and go to their pool hall and bug their buddies to play this awesome new game. That is, imo, the only indication that the new pool game will succeed.

4) Having to buy a new set of balls is a big hurdle for people to enter the game. Not only because people have to pay money, also because it's not fun/impractical to carry around a box of balls.

PLUS an introduction to the game this was all developed for... *drum roll please*

simultaneous shooters?

exploding balls?

a mystery ball that rolls funny?

balls that change color mid-game!

monsters inside the balls that shoot
back at you?

whiskey shots inside the balls that you
can only drink if you make the shot?

We designed and developed this game to fix an "issue" initially, later realising the scope this has to become a competitive cue sport.

the “issue” is of course that we all miss so much, so have you developed balls that go in the pocket no matter where they’re hit?

damn, now that’s a great idea!

I'll just continue to purchase Dynaspheres Rhodium cue balls and Vanadium (used to be Bronze) ball sets from Kozoom in France:

If you spend over 200 euro and are shipping to the USA, you get free shipping and the lower tax free price. Only challenge is the inventory counts are not the best all the time (I think this is a Dynaspheres issue on their side)...

That sounds great, we wouldn't suggest not doing so, but what our balls with rules offer is something a little different to what you might think is just another 8 ball set. There is no 8 ball for starters!

Stay tuned!

I'm sorry, but why? There are plenty of games now and about a billion that exist but aren't played any longer. Adding another doesn't strengthen the sport, it dilutes it.
It may not "strengthen" the sport, but this will offer a great alternative in ADDITION to standard pool games.

It has been developed mainly to solve a problem, but stay tuned!

Have you read the other reply to this and understand reservation funnels? We don't receive your £1 or $1.30, and we are not launching this until you see the concept and decide if you would like to order. It'll mostly be the clubs/bars as opposed to individuals, around an 80/20 split we anticipate, but let's not critique something so negatively yet until you know more, eh?

Just giving you all the heads up about something we're brewing 😀

Stay tuned,
Jack

im selling a new game to join for only 50 cents. wont tell you anything about it but you only have to pay 50 cents. how cheap can you be not to send me 50 cents.
for just 3 dollars you become a preferred member.
if things go then you can buy my great new pool thingys for only a couple hundred bucks.
Please read the first response to the original post, Maha.

We don't receive any of the £1 reservation. That's not how reservation funnels work. I'll repost this bit for you.

""So, what we're looking to do is to seek potential customers in advance when we reveal the concept soon, with a reservation funnel of just £1 ($1.30) " it's just a reservation. It gets refunded at any point, but if you back us by ordering a set having reserved with your "quid", you will get access to better rewards."

Either way it comes back to you, whether you pre-order, or don't pre-order.

We aren't asking for and haven't suggested we expect anything before you get to see what it's all about. 😀

Stay tuned!
Jack
