A night at the Palace

Last night I was in the Palace ( Anchorage Billiard Palace) as the day bartender ( affectionately known as “the day girl” but really a guy) gets off work. Now his nose has been open a little bit for a couple of weeks since we played last. We played a set of one pocket and he lost badly, playing even. Now he has a pretty solid game and he will usually have the best of me playing even but it doesn’t exactly take the perfect storm for me to win either. We don’t play for money though, that won’t sting enough. We play for a table dance from a gal that plays pool at the Palace. A 3 star pool player and a 5 star dancer. She works just around the corner. Looser has to pay and watch.
Well last night he barks “I’ll give you 9 to 6” race to three for the usual, I say no not tonight. Now I don’t know what school of matching up he went to… but adjusting the game from losing even to 9 to 6 is unusual at best. Like I said his nose has been open for a while so I’m pretty sure it will get even better. Sure enough a couple of minutes later he barks “ NINE TO FIVE WINNER BREAKS” …well ok, if I get the first hit. One set one set only.
The day girl actually played pretty good one game and did manage to win a game but the set went pretty quick he never actually was in it. We went back to the bar and a few minutes later right on cue he says “I’ll give you another set just like that”. No, no, no just one set tonight. I’ll just let him sit and slow cook for a while ( I almost felt like he needed a tinfoil tent so he won’t brown too much! ). After about 30 minutes of him and Mr. Jagermeister working on their strategy I said OK one more set. Well he loses the first game 5,0 the second 5,-1 and unscrews before the third he said I forgot to mark a game I won but it was just his way of getting out after two games. There was a pretty good crowd watching by now, including a girl he has gone out with a few times lately and she was rooting for me! Well he took off for upstairs immediately not even to recap the critical moments of the match which is usually a requirement of losing, I think he went to consult with Mr. Jager again. There will be plenty of time for us to relive the critical moments of the match up when we go around the corner and he gets to pay off his bet.

Glenda is always happy to see us after we have been playing one pocket.

Just part of pool’s rich pageant

Cheers
