Then I got in touch with Fats and all he wanted was where and when to be there. In the end it fell through because I coud not get the hall from the city. When I contacted Fats and told him it was off, he sent me a check for $500.00 donation anyway for the kid we were doing the fund raiser for.

The side of Fats that's rarely mentioned. In the Carbondale Humane Society there's a plaque honoring Fats for his contributions saving dogs and cats. Never turned down a stray or unwanted dog or cat.

That's right. He would pick up strays on the street, regardless of the city he was in at the time. If no one wanted them, he'd take them home. A lot of people don't know that about him.
