A question about 10 ball spot - $ game

Hello,

I need to clarify something with you guys. I am not much of a pool player but I enjoy the game every now and again.

I had a chance to play with a semi - pro in Hawaii and I asked for a spot because there is no way I could beat him even.

I asked to get last four balls and he said ok.

I also got a spot for last 3 or last 2 balls in some other states and I won some games and I lost others.

I thought if I get the last 3 or 4 balls, I could shoot any ball. What I mean is, if the only balls are 4, 6, 9 and 10 on the table I could shoot the 9 and if I can make it, I win the game. He said no. I have to go in order and he never heard a game like this.

Obviously I am describing a huge spot but again, I am not much of a pool player like many of you on this site.

This is a really honest question and I just want an honest answer.

I would really appreciate if anyone gives me a clear answer on this.

That would be called the last 4 with the option, the option means you can shoot any of the remaining 4 balls. Does increase the handicap quite a bit.
