a question of Aesthetics

I am a couple of weeks away of having a cue made for me, and I have a question about Ivory. I read the other post about how it hits and plays and spoke with several other people who are all telling me to go ivory ferrule which is fine. I am going to have ivory windows in the ringwork of my cue as well as several Ivory diamonds. On the joint collar and the butt cap, is it necessary to go ivory there aswell? If I use fake ivory how does that change the look. Do they look dramatically different? Over time and years do they discolor differently? How apparent is the difference between fake and real ivory for joint collars and butt caps?

I am by no means a cuemaker, so FWIW...I have a cue with alot of ivory, including ferrule and joint. I purposely did not have the butt cap made from ivory, it's very expensive and it seems to take the most abuse. If the cue is never going to leave your ouse go for the ivory butt cap, otherwise some sort of plastic looks fine. Youn definately tell the difference in the "ivory like" products and real ivory.

Again FWIW,

Jim
