A question of style

Watching Dave Hemmah play at hard times I saw something I don't understand. He holds the cue in the palm of his bridge hand , grabs the butt with his other hand , pulls it back and then forms a bridge with his bridge hand. Where did this originate ? He is not the only one that does this. I must have learned from Cesar Morales .

I have noticed this too, xplor.
Hemmah appears to invariably "squeeze" the cue in the palm of his left hand as part of his pre-shot routine.
It's certainly a unique idiosyncrasy and no doubt an important component to his rhythm.
Do note that this "squeeze" is done while he is still standing above the shot.

Sorry I don't know the origin of Hemmah's "squeeze," but I imagine someone at Hard Times must have learned this over the years.

Is this a recent pre shot routine for Dave?

I'm accustomed to a more upright port-arms stance, then a vertical cue positioning, then down to the shot line, by Hemmah.

Maybe, I'm remembering his PSR incorrectly.

I too have noticed the 'palming' lately, followed by minimal practice stroke(s), then shoot. Seem to work for him.

Could it be a PSR habit from spreading talcum powder on the shaft? Even if he's not using powder, he might have developed the "motion-habit" from it.
