Sneaky Pete is an old term that has survived and morphed into much more.
A budweiser cue is NOT a SP. A cuetech is NOT a SP. When was the last time somebody tried to hustle someone with a SP ?? I mean, this is not 1970 anymore.
Heck, APA 3's have their own cues, so anyone that has their own cue is not necessarily good. And nobody is backing away from someone that rolls up with their own cue anymore. Heck, why would a guy who doesn't even have his OWN cue walk into a pool room and wanna play a $100 set ?? That there is a RED FLAG
3 Kinds of SP's, and all three versions have POINTS without veneers. If you have a "SP" with veneers from say Blackcreek, basically you have a wrapless custom cue, not a SP.......
1) A true version is a production cue with no ring work, standard wood, wood to wood joint, and low cost. Schmelke, Players, etc.
2) A higher dollar SP from a production company and/or local cue maker that might have some ring work, and will have non wood to wood type joint, and maybe using a little better wood than standard.
3) Custom SP. A chance to own a cue from a top cuemaker for a lot smaller price than their custom cues. $500-$1000. Usually with better wood, all Ebony, Coco, or Braz Rosewood, or other..... May or may not have ring work, but it will be the cuemakers standard joint, some will have a Hoppe ring, maybe even an daimond in the points, etc., depends on how much you wanna pay
