I believe that is the cue I told you about! And yes it is a ivory handle box cue!

Nick

That box cue is like..... Wow, Nick I have to say you have great taste in cues, Tim Scruggs does beautiful work! Scott

box cue, got wood?

The picture of that box cue, as nice as it is, still does no justice when you hold it and look at it up close. That thing is friggin' nice I tell you. The ebony is so pure black and the finish is one like I've never seen before. Tim's talent really comes out in that one.

It's like a "big block" thats all chromed out sitting off in the corner of the machine shop, just waiting to get dropped into a little box Nova.

Great thread

The box cue is in a case that I gave Timi. But being Tim he had to give twice what I gave him in return! Real class act. Both of you. I have to admit my jaw dropped when he put that thing in my hands. He asked me what I would think to price it at and was not suprised when he heard my reply was his asking price. You are right about the box cue. It is flawless.
One correction on my part I was there June 9th I believe not in May.

Hey Hit Man,

Glad you had a good time. Did he show you any magic tricks? When I went down a couple of years ago, I shot some 9 ball with him, took a tour of his shop and showed a bunch of magic tricks. Tim's a great guy....

magic

I'll be heading back there later this fall. (with the camera) I didn't know Tim did magic tricks.

One thing he said though was, he couldn't figure out why his work had become so popular this late in his career. He says he's busier now than he's ever been. He seemed very modestly happy about that. I guess that's magic in itself!

You just don't know when fortune will find you, it just happens! But, no one deserves it more than Tim .

Ralph,I dont know why his work has become more popular at what Mr Scruggs feels is late in his career but hopefully with the recent improvements healthwise he will still have many years left to work(and fish).I havent yet had the priviledge of visiting the shop but Tim and Mike are absolutely first class in every way. Thanks for sharing the photos.Mike Sellers

Thinking of retirement

Well I think that Tim looks great. He says he's feeling great too, I think in part because of the many appreciative collectors that have expressed their sincere gratitude for his work. It's really inspiring. Tim told me of times earlier on when he was struggling and wasn't much liking being a cuemaker because of the money. Just hearing the whole story of when he first got started with Dan Janes makes one realize just how hard he's worked to get to where he is today. I don't think he's ready to retire, not just yet anyway. Lately there's been some rumors and speculation as to his retirement at the end of this year. I didn't push the question, but it's like I said earlier, I think he's enjoying what he's doing now more than ever. That makes a big difference.
Another reason is because of Mike Cochran. Tim couldn't speak more highly about Mike's talent. This guy is up before the crack of dawn every day, answers all the e-mails, and is hard at work in the shop before Tim even get's there. His work is just amazing and together they make an awesome team.

I had a rare opportunity to visit with one of the greatest cuemakers of all times: Mr. Tim Scruggs. He's the nicest guy you'd ever want to meet and his cues really need no introduction. We traded some great stories and he even gave me some time on his tabe to play with a few of his personal classics'. I toured his shop and I got a peek at some of his up and coming work. I didn't get to meet Mike Cochran as he was away on vacation but in all in all it was a great day. He even gave me a tip for one of his favorite resturants in Baltimore for the best crab cakes around! The 5 and1/2 hour ride from New York was well worth it as the memories will last. The photographs taken are with permission from Mr. Scruggs and I just wanted to share them with the fellow AZ members. Enjoy!

I have never been to a cuemakers shop but would love to see that! I would like to see southwest shop!

Tim Scruggs and Mike Cochran!!!

I see this post is filled with great stories of Tim and his work. Only cues I've ever used and I've been playing about 13 years now. I've dealt with Custom Cues a couple times now and have only positve experiences to tell, very very curteous people to deal with. Here is my 1980 TS player that hits like a champ. Just got this refinished in Dec/Jan of 06/07. Still waiting on another cue thats being refinshed, it will look incredible to be sure. Enjoy...

Cue Maker Of 2009

Tim is just a great person to know. Also he will do just about anything to make you a happy customer and the cues out of his place are considered as good as it gets. He won cue maker of the year and Mike Cochran is his right hand man. His Cues are considered the best hitting cues on the market. Thanks for being a good friend. Your buddy Fast Eddie F.
