I'm Looking To Find A New Source For High Quality Shaftwood. I Think Atlas Gets Theirs From Dominiak In Upstate Ny. I've Also Been Told Of A Company Custom Cut? Any Suggestions???:)

H.A Stiles in Boston sells fantastic wood, if you get their "Ultra" grade. Also, Pechauer sells good shaft wood, when they have extra.

Try Schmelke cues they sometimes have good deals

Schmelke does have good deals on somethings and I buy a number of things from them. I give everybody a try so I got 20 Schmelke A shafts one time to try. I made one pass to get a look see and then tossed them all as the best one I wouldn't use in a trapper.

This may be true! I've always been happy with Schmelke's other products that I've purchased over the years but the shaft wood did absolutely nothing for me. If you like flat laminated shaft wood though they sell those dowels cheaper than most places sell good shaft wood. I've bought them before to use as coring dowels. I've got a couple of them turned down to 13.5mm in case anyone should ever ask for one. Never know.

I've got a place I'm getting my shaft wood from now that is the nuts. Ain't turning their name loose though as I've done that in the past and prices went sky high. The stuff I'm getting now is as good as any wood I've ever bought. I've got a hundred of them I've been turning for 9 or 10 months now and 2 more passes and they'll start going onto cues. Placing an order for another 100 today. That will give me a supply of around 400 or so.

After Jim turned me on to this I'll never go back to maple!
Chris Hightower.=good
H.A Stiles in Boston=no good
Try Schmelke cues=good sometimes
http://rolaine.com/=worst I ever bought
dominiak=poor
Atlas=no good
Prathers=good
Bell Forest=no good
Pechaur=good sometimes
northern michigan, old German guy= best available in the US

Shaft wood is crap shoot every time you buy.......odds are you'll get what you don't pay for.
I will only buy Dec Jan Feb cut trees anymore though. If the supplier can't tell you this is when it was cut......probably higher percentage will be no good.
Some of my thoughts on this hush, hush subject.........

Let's go to Ohio and check Dick's UPS and FedEx records.
I bet we can find it there.:D
I had one supplier east of New York.
He sent me shafts with so many rings, you couldn't count them.
Now, he don't wanna do it no more.
Baseball bats are more profittable.

One of two things to do...

Either start planting some Hard Rock Maple trees, or start using Elm :D

Best ebony in the world comes from there if you can get your paws on it!
Though they are famous for striped ebony their Black is much better than Gaboon. I have heard fires and typhoons wiped out the cue quality supplier mills there and they have not kicked back up.
