The 4th side *does not need* to "have an effect", but it's necessary to have a playable table. Not a joke/sarcasm Heater451.
What is fundamental with Diamond System are the finish lines. Those lines are very stable when playing with full spin.
With Corner 50 numbers, this means that a shot Start=50, Aim=30, approximately borrows the same road 20-20, that the shot Start=40, Aim=20, or any one else where S - A = 20.
The 4th rail have no effect in that.
Of course, with a non 8x4 table, the 4th rail numbers would have to be change.
As explained in About Diamond System Geometry, the spin in mathematical simulation calculations is taken into account as follows:The 4th side *does not need* to "have an effect", but it's necessary to have a playable table.
The assertation was that the table dimensions had to be 2:1 ratio ("Twice as long as it is wide!") for the system to work. There is no direct correlation to a 4-side requirement, as far as the geometry goes. The 4th side is also the equal-opposite of the other side, so it's necessary for the system to be used when shooting from the other side--and yes, this would mean the opposite side would now be "unnecessary", but that's not the point.
If you change the table shape to another ratio, then the system would not work.
Question though--when you say "full spin" and your diagram valued Spin at 2.7, what does that number represent--is it a rate, a tip-offset amount, or something else?
In my experience, each 1/3 of maximum tip offset produces about one diamond of angle kicking cross-table - maximum spin (3/3) produces 3 diamonds of angle. Of course, table and ball conditions will affect it, but stick & tip differences shouldn’t.As explained in About Diamond System Geometry, the spin in mathematical simulation calculations is taken into account as follows:
- spin = 1 = 1 tip causes one diamond deviation in width (two in length)
- spin = 2.7 causes a deviation of 2.7 diamond in width.
