Hello everyone,

There is so much out there in the way of instructional materials. What should be on my 'short list' to buy? The only thing I own is the book 'The Lesson' by the Monk...

Here's what I'm wanting:
DVD's not books.
Something that covers: better fundamentals for the intermediate player, pocketing balls more consistantly, rail systems, pattern play, mental aspects of the game.

Thanks in advance for any input-

J.

I know you said DVDs not books but I believe both the Beards books are a must!!!
And for the price the Illustrated Principles of Pool & Billiards.(book)
Today I just recieved The Great Breat Shot. I glanced through it a little & it seems it's what I've been looking for. I have Racking Secrets #1 & would highly recommend it.
A good fundamental book is Phil Chapella's Play Your Best Pool.
Me personally, I learn easier & faster from books.

Hey Pops...According to the picture in your avatar, Vol 2 is called "Taking Your Game to the Next Level"! LOL I do agree that those two dvds have some "good chit" on them!

Max Eberle - Powerfull Pool. When on sale under 50$ I believe. Nothing comes close to this when comes to fundamentals lots of value.

Jimmy Reid - No time for negative and the rest of his stuff. Don't overpay there is someone dealing those on AZB I believe.

For creation of rutine and kick shot tables you should read a book
Advanced Pro Book by Henning

I got lots of other recommendations but that is a good start.

BTW. Play your best pool by Cappelle is great too.

Wolven...Why would anyone buy Jimmy Reid's stuff from anyone but him? After all, the guy is fighting cancer, and deserves every dollar he can make from his knowledge.

He was collecting for Jimmy Reid. There was a thread on AZ on this.
I believe there are other places selling it and Jimmy would get less of profits.

His name was Darth and he was asked by Jimmy to sell them.

I bought them just to support the man and liked them a lot.

The Video Encyclopedia of Pool Shots, all five volumes offer good information. If you're starting out or if you're an intermediate player, the DVDs have all this good information about the game. It has all these scenarios presented and it shows more than one way a pool player can approach them.

Thanks for the great suggestions everyone! I'll start looking up info on them and make some decisions soon.

I read some good reviews on Max Eberle's videos. I'm going to look the others up and do some homework...

I'm going to have to look into the books. I like 'The Lesson', but if I didn't have someone available who was able to describe/teach me what the Monk was trying to explain regarding performing a punch stroke then I never would have figured it out from his writing explaination. That is the only reason I stated I preferred DVDs over books. I like having diagrams from books though.

Thaks again. This helps me get started :)

Eberle and Reid were the two I was going to recommend. After watching the Eberle DVD's, I wished I had seen them when I first started to play. He advances you step by step. Great stuff. And Jimmy Reid's DVD's are terrific too. Lots of great info and tips. He's a genius at kicking. I keep thinking about taking lessons but because of a bad back I can't play more than an hour or so at a clip. I believe that a session or two with a good teacher (Lee Scott is foremost on my mind) would be invaluable. Good luck in your quest to be a better player.
