I received an email from paypal, asking me to ''update my browser''
Has anyone else got this same message from them or is it some kind of a scam? Thanks for any help (answers) anyone can provide me with.
Jeff

paypal shouldnt ever be asking a client to update their broswers. to verify the integrity of the email, did it actually come from Paypal? you can always check if it was sent over a secure connection, as well as a digital signature if something from you was required. i checked my own, and didnt receive any emails, so its probaly a phishing attempt. delete it immediately and report to paypal if able.

Thanks Legend
It looks as if it came from paypal. It ask me to go to www.paypal.com/safebrowser & follow the easy to do steps.
I hope I can post that here. Just wanted some thoughts on this matter.
Thanks Jeff

One thing to look at is whether they addressed you by your full name or not. Bogus emails will say something like, 'Dear Paypal user' or something similar. Also the actual email address will let you know if it is legit or not. Can't remember offhand what exactly the real Paypal email address is.

sounds like a scam. if you really want to see whether paypal has an update browser page, just log into paypal first (dont click on any link they give you, just go via a new browser window/tab, like you normally do) and find the page from within.

Hi rossaroni
It has my full name & email address. Also here is the email sent to me;
''PayPal'' paypal@info.paypal.com

Hope this helps and does it still look like a scam or is it legit?
Thanks Jeff

I went to the PayPal forum, where a bunch of people have asked about this email. According to the moderators there, it is a valid email. But unless you are using a really old browser, you don't need to do anything - just ignore the email.

I got the same one earlier this week, but didn't do it. It looked shady to me.

Jeff,

If it's a legitimate e-mail, then in all liklihood PayPal did some kind of upgrade to their site/code and are using features that are not supported in older browsers. Right now a lot of sites are putting out messages that they're no longer supporting Internet Explorer 6 and that their sites may no longer function properly in that browser.

My tip would be to do the browser upgrade yourself. It's very easy to get the latest versions of Internet Explorer and Firefox and install them yourself. If they're offering to do it for you... i.e. "Click here to update your browser software", DON'T DO IT. No legitimate site would ever do that.

My biggest tip that could avoid a lot of this hassle. Create a non-administrator account and do all your day-to-day work using that account. The BIGGEST security hole in Microsoft Windows is that the default account is a computer administrator. By simply working with and accessing the internet with a "limited account", most of that garbage will not be able to install itself.
