Almost any wood can be used as a butt sleeve wood as it is not a structual part of the cue and almost always is installed over a dowell which gives unstable wood strength, however, other than Gabon Ebony, most cue builders use the same wood in their collars as they do in their prong. Black Acacia, as it is known, is a straight grain wood honey gold in color with red and black streaks running it's length. I would imagine it would also make a good prong wood although I have never used it.
