Well my plane is booked so it looks like I'll be heading to vegas in May to play in the acs nationals. It's my first vegas tournament though I've been to vegas before for business and marriage lol Can anyone tell me in size how this will compare to the super billiards expo? The league I'm in is acs one year and bca the next and I've heard the acs has fallen off in the last few years in size but I'm hoping there are still a lot of vendors and mini tournaments going on.

I already know that lol in Vegas every damn casino is like an enormous maze designed so you walk past every machine and table game they have... Twice lol

As Randy said, you will have fun. The Tropicana is a great host. Gary Benson runs an excellent event. The staff at ACS will make you feel welcome.

Randy was being polite as far as the walking goes. Because of security concerns, Tropicana keeps all access doors locked to other than hotel residents. Getting from the parking facility to the playing area is quite a walk.

The tournament area is bright and well laid out. There are ample tables for practice during and between events. Compared to the APA, VNEA and BCAPL events, there are very few vendors. Prices are what you'd expect at a casino for food and beverages.

Been very fortunate to have played in most all ACS Nationals. John Lewis and his team do a great job. If you used to play BCA National events back in the day, you'll recognize quite a few faces. There will also be a few current BCAPL people you'll remember as well.

If you look for me, I'm the really old guy with dark glasses and a cane :p . Seriously, I'll be entered in the nine ball event as well a Advanced eight ball singles. See you there!

The ACS Midwest 8 Ball last weekend was well organized. Riverside Casino is a nice venue. John and crew keeps it running smooth but if things continue the way they are more space will be needed. Are league is getting more players there every year. Hope to make a trip out west some day myself. Good luck to both of you.

My team's going. Just won a local tournament last night that sends a team every year. My team went without me last year and from what I hear, it's very small in comparison to the expo, but still a good time and good competition.

Contemplating playing singles while i'm out there, but don't want to be shooting pool the entire time. Anyone know what kind of draw the tournament usually gets?

Our league went to the ACS last year after switching over from the BCA because of them moving it to July.... as a Canadian, we don't want to be in Vegas during July when it is so nice back home.

I've been to the BCA 5 or 6 times... here is my comparison;

- ACS is about 1/6 the size.... Open 8 ball had about 200 player compared to the 1100-1200 in the BCA. Similar ratio for the team events.

They about 70 tables set up. 3.5x7 valleys .... play good, but are no Diamonds. Was pay-per play last year, green fees/open tables this year.

Tropicana is so much better than the Riv. Better rooms, much better swimming pool, better strip location. Only downside is the food court is shit ... head over to the one on the strip in front of MGM.

Tournament was run well. Same computerized scheduling as the BCA uses.

No pros around.... not really a big deal, but I did watch some of the tournaments at the BCA... but can't say I missed it.

We (our league/other locals from my city) did really well.... almost everyone made money/cashed. Our team came second in the advanced teams and I came second in the second chance 8 ball (loosing to a friend that I'd be out all night with drinking/gambling...oops)

Going again this year.

Your guess is pretty much correct. Last years Advanced eight ball had 16 entries. The BCAPL Masters eight ball had twenty six. The BCAPL Open nine ball was around 256. ACS was 108.

Beat your own Dave Boone in both events. Going to see him in Mississauga next week. Not looking forward to it. Dave is one tough customer!

The two systems are not the same. Each is outstanding in it's own way. The CTS system does not use a scanner to input information. After watching Gary Benson use that input mode, I'll bet CSI will tinker with a similar system this year.

Can't say I will miss the pro's either. Might be really interesting to see Shane play the challenge match at the BCAPL's though.

The team from Vegas you lost to was my old team. We won the year before as well. Didn't spend enough time over the Winter in Vegas to qualify. Your team must have played very well to get to that point in the event. Not a lot of teams but the ones who attended all played strong!

Look forward to meeting you this year. Just look for the really old guy with dark glasses.... Oops, already used that line.

I'll be there for the first time this year. I've been to VNEA a couple times so I'm sure the downsizing will be a bit of a shock at first but hey, we're in Vegas and we're playing pool so who cares?! Plus I heard they have beer there, big fan. See you all there!

You'll like Tropicana. Especially if you swim or sun bathe. Think there are seven or eight pools around the property. Bally's may have been more centrally located. Tropicana and the end of The Strip have their own treasures. Looking forward to riding the new 550 foot Ferris Wheel around the corner. Yes, they have beer, it's cold and there is a lot of it!
