It's funny, some of the action is so organized that it is reminiscent of the old challenge matches decades ago. And there are so many matches at prices at less than 5 large, the spectators have so many choices that they're almost non-chalant about it.

Here are some of the match ups that have happened in the last day or two:

Joyner vs. Deuel 4-ahead one-hole

Joyner gives up 10-6
Deuel has to shoot every shot using the bridge.

With this game, Deuel is still an A player. He uses the telescoping bridge and holds it in all kinds of configurations. At 4:00 AM, it still wasn’t finished.

Gabe Owens vs. Santo Sambajon, race to 8, I don’t know if there was any spot.

Gabe says this is his best game. He showed it. Aggressive moving with great smooth shot making. Gabe has leaped from obscurity to world-class play. And I’m dead serious about that “world-class” distinction. His US Open win was no fluke. He is the future. He runs over Santos with ease.

Frost vs. Bustamante on the television table, race to 7 one-hole, even game.

I recall seeing Frost 4 years ago playing one-pocket for high money. At the time I thought he was crazy , but today I can see how much his game has improved. due to the hardened games. He is a world-class one-pocket player and might challenge the top two or three U.S. players.

That being said, he outlasted Bustamante on the hill 7-6. I don’t think Bustamante concentrates on this game currrently, but I think he’s going to change it around. He has the potential with his creativity to become an all-time great. I believe this is the first time for Busty in the DCC. His banks results (top 5?) proves that he is more than just a 9-baller. I predict he’ll win the all-around.

Efren vs. Mika, no idea what spot playing one-hole, $30 a game.

That's right, $30 a game. Efren does this all the time. It's nothing but cheap lessons for Mika. And he looked glad to be paying it.

I will now go on a bit of a rant. The WPBA doesn’t allow their players to this venue. Not just playing, but even just being there. The gambling does get heavy. But the way the venue is set this year, the heavy over-the-top seems to be segrated to the bar area (where they’ve set up seven or eight 9’ Diamond Smart Tables. The stage-show gambling matchups have been on the TV table (with nobody filming) and has been very… tasteful. I don’t think this year there has been anything objectionable for the image of pool in the main tournament area. I hear they have a WPBA operative in the facilities to make that assessment. I hope he agrees. The tournament could use some WPBA players in it.

Okay, I am gonna look like a dumb dumb here but isn't Jeanette Lee in the WPBA and wasn't she there last year? A buddy of mine has a great story about seeing her in a thong playing banks...(insert evil midget grin) But seriously, are they THAT controlling?

"Efren vs. Mika, no idea what spot playing one-hole, $30 a game. "

I think this kind of thing happens a lot at this level, we just don't hear too much about it. When Parica was super hot (early 90s late 80s) I watched him play Tony Ellin in pocket for something like 40 a game. Jose said " You'd better not quite a winner on me." Everyone that was watching laughed but I couldn't figure out why. Tony had just drilled the tournament field in 9 ball. Then I saw the game and how Jose played it (I hadn't seen real one pocket before this). Around the same time Buddy Hall played a friend of mine a race to 11 for nothing. Most of the pros have a ton of respect for each other and the fans. Just ask the right right question at the right time and you can get a lot of free answers or advice.

THat was a special circumstance last year. IIRC, the WPBA said ahead of time that they wouldn't be doing that this year. No special waivers. I don't have all the information, so this is all rumor mongering.

This is a concept I try to tell the lesser players in my area. We have sort of a legend in Jack Colavita, he loves low money games, 9 ball race to 7 for 20, 20 dollars for a 100 game of straight pool. Very few players take him up on this. Crazy.. where can you get these lessons? Plus he will show you a thing or two during the match, or comment on what you should have done.

Sarah Rousey and Jeanette Lee and a couple of semi-pros (IIRC) played last year. The WPBA frowns on overt gambling (they have a strict no-gambling rule at their tourneys) so I assume their thinking is that it looks bad having their members play at DCC.

This site was running good this morning now I feel like I am walking thru molasses again.

Hell i'll play any of the top players for 20 a game or 50 a set if i can learn from them. And it helps me in the long run ..
It's cheaper then someone standing over you tell you how to play a shot .And u can ask how did thay play a shot, and then show you how it was done . I go to a lot of pro events and ask questions on shot and strokes .And alway got nothing but good answers ..and now there are some who should never talk to people ever in life .thay have no respect ...
But i'm looking to do that and see how it works .But will that make me a FISH ???????

Jeanette is watching her husband play and is not participating as far as I know. She is there with a beautiful babe: her daughter Cheyenne.

Playing the pros for cheap

As for playing the top players for 20 a game or 50 a set that is a BARGAIN! I played Joyner one pocket in Sacramento for $10/game. I didn't lose much cash, but the learning experience was worth much more. I also played other top players $10 or $20 a game one pocket or cheap $50 sets of 9-ball in the past. All you have to do is just ask them, but don't insult them for asking a spot. Play them even! Hell, you should be lucky you can play the world's best for such low stakes. Trust me, the learning experience you recieve will pay back 12-fold when you rob your next sucker. You probably couldn't even play a round of golf with Tiger Woods for $10,000.

She had some side action with some very average older
man, spotting him 7 games in a race to 11 and she
had a designated breaker.

Playing with Tiger

Last I saw, the going rate to play a round with Tiger was about $3 million and that was a few years ago...and you weren't gambling, you were giving.

Cheers,
