Win a rosewood cue!!
Peacock Billiards Etc is offering a $95. rosewood cue to the person who can identify the most billiard, pool, and snooker related terms in the following story.

I was in a foul frame of mind as I stood at the head of the queue, about to pocket the rest of my savings, when this cherry car shot across the bridge as from a cannon, jumped the rail, and broke into the side of the T.D. bank. The English nurse on call ran to the spot, hooked her umbrella around the driver's foot, and dragged him to safety. I ran to the lady's aid, but she had already made a ball of her apron to cushion his head. At the hospital she sat on the edge of the bed where he lay, in bad shape, with a combination of cuts, breaks, and scatches, told him to nap, kissed him, and tip-toed into the kitchen. I followed and nominated her Nurse of the Century. She balked at this saying, "It's a natural hazard of the position."

I don’t have the energy to count this right now,

It’s very cool, I’m pretty good with pool slang. Words are my strong suit.

Question tho, Have I missed something? Does the word “Umbrella” ever come into snooker slang? I don’t recall hearing that term in the past…..ever. In Europe or America. I haven’t spent much time in Canada and thought possibly something got past me.

Thx
Fatboy <——-🤓 still learning…

one pocket, an umbrella shot. balls open like an umbrella. there is also a trick shot called umbrella shot.
3c billiards, when you hit two rails then the ball and then another rail. its called umbrella shot.

Wow, Maha. I didn't know 'umbrella'. You only missed four, by my count:
REST = bridge;
ON is the ball you have to hit next;
CALL = nominate the ball & pocket
CHERRY = red ball in snooker;

Brazilian rosewood cue by Dufferin was $95 Canadian retail back then. Wish I had a photo of one.

ON is the ball you have to hit next;

i guess.. 🤷 "is it on? it may be on" etc.

..but it's also a bit of a stretch to include such a common preposition as a billiard related term. i enjoyed the exercise though, thanks for sharing.

btw. in swedish we say "klar", which means clear. "is it clear? it may be clear".

I got zero issues with snooker terms when watching SNOOKER. What i can't fade are these euro-weenie(and canuck wyche) talkin heads that use them to describe pool. Fkng joke.

How did I miss that one. Thx! Learn something new everyday

“2 hit & the pick” wasn’t in that story. Or “rearranging the furniture” (my favorite)

Pretty cool idea, I like it.

Thx for the ☂️ lesson

He potted the 8 in the middle pocket using deep screw to get position on the 9 so he can slot it in the yellow bag. He sure has had the run of the balls as well.

lol I get it. I don’t like snooker terms for pool either. The one problem is I’ve been watching way too much snooker and I’m using the term “middle” pocket now😅.

I suppose it works the other way: Ronnie shot his nuts off, when he dabbed Judy over to the orange 5 I knew that Judd Trump took the gas, that was the back breaker.

Or something like that……

Pool & snooker are separate and I like it like that. Ofc snooker players are afforded the same color balls historically and us pool players have been subject to corporate abuses and marketing ploys…….

Fatboy 😃

yes i missed rest for sure. on and call i thought were mostly stretching it although i should have known the idea was to stretch it. my fault there as well. but i did it quickly to keep it fair.

cherry, i thought was something maybe like the red in snooker, but i didn't feel i should go to google to cheat. and never heard of cherry as i don't follow snooker at all much less the talk.

but a great little exercise.

and shows how reading comprehension and thinking is so important in all aspects. and how easy it is if rushing things to miss the obvious.

Canuck players tend to be bilingual….lots of snooker terms we have distaste for…like ‘screw’ ‘double’ ‘bag’ etc.
I‘ve used the term spin with the position on the clock and have been asked what I mean in the pool and snooker world.

If somebody doesn't know "spin" I have to question if they've ever played
