This is advanced "banger" 8-ball strategy here...
I played a guy in a bar the other night who was a "banger's banger"! (No one else to play.)
This guy was really something. Every time he had a shot at the table, he would hit a ball - any ball (including mine), as hard as he possible could. All the balls on the table would then be re-arranged.
This was quite irritating to say the least, but I thought I would play along. I told him if he made one of his balls in *any* pocket (not called), it was a good shot. He seemed to think this was a fair way to play.
So he would bang the heck out of the balls, and one of his balls would luck into a pocket somewhere. He would look pleased with himself - strut around the table, etc. However when he got down to a couple of balls which he could easily shoot in and win the game, he would continue to bang the heck out of them rather than attempting to make them and win! So I don't know about that.
Anyway I asked him about his "strategy". He said if one of his opponents balls was in front of a pocket, he would knock it away so his opponent would not have that easy shot. Also if he hit hard enough for each shot, one of his balls would usually go into a pocket.
So I said I was thinking about shooting the 8 in front of a pocket so it would be hanging there. I asked him if this disrupt his "strategy". He said yes he would be in a fix because if he shot hard, one of the balls might knock in the 8.
So if you have the misfortune of playing someone like this, work the 8-ball so it is hanging in front of a pocket. Then they will not know what to do.
Postscript: I run a BCA money tournament and guess who shows up? This guy. Someone else told me they were trying to get him to play in the tournament. I said no way! Please, please don't get him to play in this tournament. He will tick everybody off and cause trouble. (We sometimes get a few master players, safety battles, etc. So I could just imagine!) I suggested he play in another tournament which has mostly bangers. He would fit in well there. Luckily he did not play in my tournament.
