Advice for an up and coming kid

I would think that your player has some preferences already, ie.:
1. Stainless vs. wood vs synthetic joint.
2. In his case probably a thinner shaft like a Predator Z( His snooker backround) vs. a 314.
3. Cue weight for 9 ball is usually between 19 and 20 oz.
4. Wrapped butt vs. plain.
5. Single vs multi layered tip.

My suggestion would be a Predator cue with a Z shaft and have a Morri medium tip installed by the manufacturer/retailer. Since about 25% of the pros use a Predator shaft, it should be a good starting point. These cues come with various joints, wraps, and tips. I think the resale value would be good if he decides to change. Trying various cues would be the best way to go but it sounds like that may not be an option for your area. I hope this helps.
