Hello,
I will be in Austin Texas next week to see my son which is 9 years old. I know I will be going through withdrawls from not playing, plus my son loves to play also. My question is,I will be at the Oak forrest Rv park off of Canoga Ave and Decker lane, my 2 closest halls are Buffalo Billiards‎ (looks$$$),201 E 6th St right by my ex-wifes work or Slick Willes ,Suite 102, 6700 Middle Fiskville Rd? I'm not looking for any action, just the best place to take my son (9)during the day to play some pool. I know it's a poolhall, but the less smoke the better. Any suggestions on these or others and average hourly rates or even barbox's? Thanks for any and all help....Ron:thumbup:

you need to go to a Fast Eddie's.

Buffalo Billiards would be OK during hte day, as he can see the unique downtown area and 6th street, lots of sights around there to take in if you want to walk around downtown.

Fast Eddie's is by far the most family friendly pool hall in Austin during the day... at night, it's gonna be a respectable sports bar type atmosphere with not that much smoke. They have pretty good but slow Olhausen's that are more home-style tables, and they have ALOT of them. Your son will remember Fast Eddie's better than any other place as a pure pool hall if you are looking to build some memories, which I'm sure you are.

G-Cue is the best hall for action and quality tables, but it is fairly shady and EXTREMELY smoky.

Local Austinites can help you out more maybe, but I'm in Austin about once a month and this is what I've come to learn.

That's great info. I used to go to Fast Eddies in Springfield, VA and it was allway's a good time with custom tables and clean room, this was back in the 1989-91 time frame. I will check out the directions and see if it's hard to find...Thank's again Da Bank...Ron

You might also try "The Main Event". It is the most smoke free place I've been to in Austin. The tables are not too bad, and during the day there are very few people playing. They also have bowling, arcade, rock climbing, shuffleboard, etc......

I go there on Mondays and Wednesdays to play 9 ball with a couple guys.

Main Event is in Cedar Park. So, it's farther than Slick Willies (Central-Middle Fiskville Rd) and Fast Eddies (Near Round Rock- I35/I45 intersection).

Just about all the pool halls here are 8 footers. Fast Eddies and Slick Willies have some 9 footers.

I like Fast Eddies the most. Mainly because I play there for free, 4 days a week. One of the advantages of being a league player. The tables are decent, and the smoke isn't as bad as other places. Mondays is free pool all day/all night for everyone. The guys working the grill are cool. I like their seasoned fries, but if you don't like the greasy bar food...there are a lot of good places to eat nearby.

Slick Willies aren't too bad, either. There are 3 locations, and I prefer the one on Burnet Road (North location). The Middle Fiskville Rd (Central location) near Highland Mall is not so bad, either. I've never been to the South location. They don't have very much to offer on food.

You should be able to find the addresses with any web search engine. If you can't find a place, shoot me an email.

I'd suggest Slick Willlie's on Burnet, too. I don't have a map available so I cannot tell you how far it is for you, but the place is very nice and the smoking area is far enough from the non smoking area...

If you want to play alone, I would suggest to go to Clicks on N.-Lamar, where you play from 11am to 6pm for $5 flat, however I think you cannot bring kids with you, but it might be worth asking?

thanks guys for the info, I have payed you in the form of some good rep:grin: I will look up"the main event" as it wasn't listed on the google poolhall search for Austin. Thanks again ...Ron

The "main event" is like a family fun entertainment place. That's why is has so many games/sports.

The Slicks that mentioned won't be bad during the day. If I remember correctly, they have a wall to seperate the smoking side from the non smoking side. They also have a hand full of video games. Their tables aren't bad, either.

As for Fast Eddie's, they'll probably be more expensive than Slicks, but wouldn't hurt to call around. They are outside of the city limits, so they do allow smoking in the entire venue.

Main Event is fun as it has so much to offer. Non-smoking in the entire venue. But the pool tables aren't that great. They don't cater to real players at all as they dont even have lights over the tables. Well, the lights are in the ceiling about 20ft or so above.

Speaking of Slicks Highland they have taken out about 2/3's of the tables and are only open Wed thru Sat from 4 - 2 am. In place of some of the tables is some sort of club type set up with a live dj on Fri and Sat nites. Club 8 ball I think is what they are calling it. Ack.Best to call if you want to get the scoop before heading over there. The south slicks is usually pretty quiet during the day as well and smoking is outside only. A 9 year old with a parent should be ok from what I have seen there.

Anything inside Austin city limits I was led to believe was under an indoor smoking ban. I havn't been up to Austin in a bit to explore but I believe what used to be Eric's (now i believe its called "The Grand") would fall into that catagory. But for family type fun the main event has you covered and should prevent a young boy from getting bored in one spot.

I just googled The main Event and I can definitely see me there in the future. We have Dave in Buster's here kinda like that but ,ours doesn't have bowling, that many tables,putt-putt,or even laser tag,my son (and I) are gonna go nut's in that place. Thank you very much for recommending The Main Event....Ron
