Advice on what to do

I have a nice cue that has some of the clear coat coming off the butt section of the cue...there are no dings in the wood....I am thinking of putting it in a lathe....sanding it down till it is smooth......then clear coating the cue.....is this a proper way to do it?

Stop right there. Back away from the cue. Make no sudden movements. Seriously though clear coating in my opinion is one of the most agravating areas of cue building unless you have alot of experiance. I am going to assume you don't since you are asking this question. Yes sanding down on the lathe is the most logical way. It isn't as easy to get the clear back on. If the cue isn't worth alot I say go for it. If it is you may want someone else to do the work.

Get one of the quality cue repairmen on here to do the job for you. Finishing is rarely a first time trying it and actually get it right type of thing.

Yes I understand...I have been painting cars and motorcycles for about 20yrs as a hobby...I will try it on a cheap cue first though...not the expensive ones
