Forgive me if my terminology is off but I was wondering if anyone has made a cue with a stainless steel joint and instead of the typical black material underneath it, have you ever used white. I'm curious to see what it would look like and I can't find any examples out there.

Thank you in advance,
Dave

Dave,
In the billiard encyclopedia there are examples in the Balabushka section as he used to use a white colored material early on in his cuemaking...

Thank you Joe. Hopefully I can find some pictures on line as well because I don't have access to the encyclopedia.

FYI...if you happen to get a hold of a 2nd edition, there are photos on pages 320 and 331 of Balabushka's work of this type.

Thanks for the heads up. So how does it look? Would you go with the traditional black collar or is the white nice enough to pick.

Regards,
Dave

The one that is pictured on page 320 looks a little "out of place", but you don't see the entire butt, only from the joint midway down the wrap. It's a Titlist-looking butt with a black wrap. It the white collar behind the steel joint looks a little odd because it's the only white piece on the cue (that you can see in this picture).

The one that is pictured on page 331 looks pretty nice. It has a white buttcap, a green with white speck wrap, a pearl-looking inlay in the points, along with the white ring behind the steel joint. It is pictured with what looks to be a whiteish joint protector. All the white and lighter-colored features tie the entire cue together nicely. Overall, a very nice looking cue.

Both cues have matching white rings on the shafts.

I would say if you can include some other white and light-colored features on the cue, the white ring behind the steel joint would probably look very nice. It seems to give it an "oldschool" look, reminding me of an ivory joint. Then again, I prefer more of an "oldschool" style.

Thanks for the info. Sounds nice but I'm hoping to get a glimpse of a picture so I can see what it looks like.

Found one. I think I like the black better but here is an example I found on Chalkers.com of a Cousins cue with white collar and stainless steel joint.
