Just an update about color...
I talked to a supplier today and he said that the wood darkens a fair bit when exposed to air (oxide) and let breath for a while.
I'm not sure how black this wood could be but I could update with some more
pics when I'm back in the garage (2-3weeks).
The wood I pictured was waxed squares which had not been exposed at all,
but now they have been breathing for a while so I could update if any one is
keen.
