OldHasBeen said:Why is there so much padding of handicaps in golf but not on the pro tour?
The answer to this one is because pro golfers don't use handicaps. Handicapped golf tournaments are amateur events where there is very limited prize money, if any at all. I really don't understand sandbagging golf handicaps, it's just fooling yourself for no particular gain. The boxing analogy is fine, and in general I agree that it's the money that causes the problems. If the tourney's paid out well, then the players would be motivated to play in them rather than try to make money gambling. Of course it wouldn't help my game ... maybe I should change my AZ name to 'Old Wanna Be'

And OHB, while I may not agree with everything you say, I do sincerely appreciate your posts, and look forward to many more. I love AZBilliards, such interesting and diverse folks.
