Aging/Dyeing Phenolic

Hello. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with aging/dyeing phenolic. I know that most people use tea to help age/dye ivory and wondered if this would also work with phenolic.

I have an old cue with a very nice patina and want to match a phenolic collar on to a Predator shaft.

I have only dyed the double black phenolic that doesn't always look black, using leather dye and it works. BUT, depending on the finish type that is used, it can smear, or worst, the finish doesn't adhere well and it lifts.

Thanks for the reply. For clarification, I just need to turn some white phenolic a little yellowish.
 
try the tea idea, and see if it works!

would love to find out, the only way to know is to try... I would also try a wood stain, you might expand the phenolic with tea, then if it shrinks, it could crack...
 
First, there is no white phenolic. It's likely LBM, Aegis or possibly Ivorine3
Phenolic starts out tan(ish) and gets darker from there with age.
LBM or any of the aforementioned 'whites' generally will stay bright white under a good finish.
Staining/dying may be your only option. Expanding/contracting is a non-issue.
These mtrls absorb less than 1/10th of 1% moisture when submerged for 24 hrs.

My latest thought is that the finish on the cue you're trying to match may be lacquer.
Lacquer will yellow with age. If that's the case, have it shot with lacquer and in time they will match.
