WHAT IS YOUR EXACT AIMING METHOD TO POCKET ANY AND ALL TYPES OF SHOTS POSSIBLE ON THE TABLE. THAT INCLUDES CAROMS, COMBINATIONS, I,2,3,4 RAIL BANKS, CROSS BANKS, DOUBLE CROSS BANKS, AND ASO POCKETING BALLS. DOES YOUR METHOD OF AIMING WORK 95 PERCENT OF THE TIME, OR BETTER?

Everybody just has the own little way, not easy to explain how it just comes to you, time and practice, thats the only way to learn, no-one can say, oh this is how you aim and then all of a sudden you know, how does a pitcher aim a baseball, a quarterback aim a football, and so on, there are tons of instuctional books and videos on this type of stuff.

i use the traditional ghost ball technique, i look for where the cb should contact the ob and leave an (imaginary) image of the cb on that spot. been using it eversince i played pool, didnt learned it from someone, i just learned that it was the technique im using when one opponent of mine before asked how i pocket the balls. :)
i dont know how well it works for me since im not yet running out a rack of 15 balls on a rotation game...:D
but i can say i can run-out a rack of 9-ball, when i manage to spread the balls, and a rack of 8-ball. of course i can also run 8 balls on a straight pool game, of course it depends if i can spread the balls on the table on the break.
this technique of mine works well for any kind of shot. on bank shots, its a little different because you have to consider the english the cb applies on the ob when it contacts the ob.
on rail banks, i draw lines on where the ball should travel.

My aiming works 100% of the time...it's my stroke that usually screws up my run. For example, place object ball in center of table. Place cueball in front of corner pocket. "Aim" for opposite corner pocket. I can "see" my aim point, but I can't pocket the object ball 95% of the time.

i dont use any system...... Its all about feel and muscle memory for me( I would say I make 85-95% of my shots).

i agree with weapon X. I quit finding a system. In doing that, my pocketing improved tremendously. I see the pocket. i know where the cue ball and object ball is, i go down the shot still feeling the pocket, stroke, check the alignment, then fire away! This is with or without english. It doesnt surprise me if the ball is pocketed. Im more surprised if its not. Ive'd been working on this for almost two years. I hav no plans of becoming a pro, just enjoying the game!

Bandido told me about your marksmanship, Doc. He says end to end thin cuts are peanuts to you.

thanks agen. Just lucky i guess. Perhaps, Mr. Edwin is just too generous in giving compliments. Maybe we could set up a meet next week. Im free this friday. I will call Mr Reyes and we could meet or play somewhere. I like playing at bugsy. medyo parang private poolroom ang dating kasi. la masyado mga miron. But we can play wherever you want din.

Well, I've been playing pool for 40 years and here's what I do. I remember where I hit the object ball the last time I had this same shot, but missed. So, this time I hit it somewhere else. If I miss it, then I hit it in a different spot the NEXT time. I've been missing the same shots for 40 years.
I am fortunate that Mr. Hal Houle (rhymes with Pool) gave me two hours of private instuction a few years ago. He's great. It helped me immensely.. imo
I'm missing them MUCH closer, now.

Hey Doug, At least it proves you are not insane - you don't keep doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result. You do something different each time, expecting a different result. That must prove something.

I myself use the light reflection on the cue ball for my aiming spot. I figure that the spirit world is aiming the light beams on the ball right where I should hit it. And they are doing it to help me because they like me. But sometimes, since we have three overhead lights, I see three reflections on the ball in which case I close my eyes and aim for the middle one.

I can attest that it really works because yesterday while in league play I ran three balls using this method. Would have run more but then my handicap would have gone up so I reverted to my old aiming method. Shoot hard and hope.

I hit the object ball real hard. It will find a hole if it rolls around enough.

Line every shot up dead straight centerball then let your mind make the cut & apply the spin as you invisioned it in your head.Sounds hard feels simple. TAP/CLICK/PLOP!

OPPS... I guess I need to read my posts before sending them.. SORRY

Hal has been helping polite asking people for years. His only request for payment is to keep his aiming technique confidential.

I have heard from those that have learned from Hal that his system works.

If you really are interested in Hal's technique, please call and be by a pool table , this is the only way you will find out how useful it could be to you.

Edited by being humbled by readers.. ;)

I think that aiming systems are for beginners or for intermediate players facing a low percentage shot.

Advanced players play by feel, IMO unless they are off that day.

Shots I know well and am 80-90 percent on I do by feel. Low percentage shots (20-50 percent). I use a system. On these low percentage shots, I look at the line coming from the place on the inside of the pocket I want to hit through the object ball, line up the cue ball to that place on the object ball and fire and pray.;)

Aww Rick, everybody knows what Tom meant, like the former mayor of Chicago said: "do what I mean, not what I say".

I was just ribbing him.

And Hal Houle sounds a lot younger on the phone then his age.

And his aiming sysem is not exactly what you might envision. It is not a system that tells you where to strike the OB. More of a back hand english technique. But then I only spoke with the man for about a half hour. Not really long enough.
