Aiming

I need some help understanding CTE/Pro1 or whatever it is called. I have read about it until my eyes bleed. I have watched videos. I even got some in person attention from John Barton (tyvm btw John!). And after all this I still don't get it.

I get the idea of setting up with the cue in the center of the cue ball and lining it up at the edge of the object ball. What I don't get is how do I determine how much I pivot?

If anyone has any insight it would be greatly appreciated!

Ok...70+ views and no response. I am guessing I failed to do something or look somewhere that already has answered my question. I am on top of the thread in the main room but with all the trolling and what not I have seen very little that has been helpful. I sum it up this way.

Aiming system proponents say - it works quit attacking it and trust it

Aiming system opponents say - it's all feel anyways so it isn't really a system or anything new or whatever...

What I gathered from Mr Barton was step in and pivot...see it works! I know he knows this. I could see the confidence he has in his alignment in his face and body language. He is 1000% sure he is aligned properly..even when he misses.

I want to stroke with that kind of confidence! lol

dr_dave just posted this in the latest aiming thread.

"Placing one's "vision center" accurately and consistency is a very important part of both aiming and sighting. One value I see in many "aiming systems" is: the pre-shot routine they encourage might help foster consistent alignment."

I think I am going to go with this for now as it will enhance the drills Ratta has me working on.

Back to the salt mine... :o

Apologies, but the problem is that 1.) you are late to the game (i.e. folks are sick of aiming threads and just don't want to get involved), or 2.) you're not giving it enough time. Giving it only an hour and ten minutes between your two posts is both pushy and "chomping at the bit." Give it some time for the *right* folks to view this. You may have to wait an entire day, for some folks to get home from work, get settled, and read/respond.

Go decaf, in the meantime.

Decaf sounds like solid advice! I have never been accused of being patient. I apologize if I have offended anyone.

I was hoping TO NOT make another aiming thread. My question was very exact in what I was looking for. I just want to learn the system and shoot some pool.

Edit: I imagine you will pick up on your mistake soon enough. Have a good day! :)

I told you we should spend some time in the pool room without the distractions we had the other night. I am sure that you will get it.

Meet me at JJs and we can spend some quality time on it. The first night we didn't really do that.

You sir are the man! I know you did but I didn't want to be "pushy" as the other gentleman put it. I will be there all day tomorrow playing in their tournament. Maybe after I go 2 and out we can take a look :D

I understand it is vague but I cannot even find a starting point. I need to improve my psr and make it consistent no matter what "system" I use. Ratta has found some very poor stroke "features" I have.

Like I said earlier...back to the salt mines

Anyone ever heard of Paul Bertholy? Great man! Great teacher! Taught me golf in the 70's...his term when it was time to get back to work was back to the salt mines. Let that sink in a bit...salt mine work would really suck!

I know I picked up a lot on the subject from JBCASES and his youtube videos. Between a number of sources, what you don't get from someone you will get from another to get the pieces to fall into place.......

Just keep an OPEN mind and keep trying......

An open mind is a wonderful thing. I only hope I can achieve it!

To keep trying is definitely in my wheel house! I am too stupid to quit! Just ask my wife!

Thank you for your time and advice!

My mistake? LOL. Oh, ok, I get the "blame" for reading your post with the mistake. :p "By reading it, I absorb it, and therefore have a role in it." :D

No, I don't think you offended anyone. You just seemed a bit antsy for replies to a public forum, especially one (Ask the Instructor) that's not as read nearly as much as the Main forum.

But it looks like you're with the right resource -- JB. He'll get you squared away.

Maybe I wasn't as impatient as you first thought. I am excited about learning this system however! So maybe I could have waited another 13 hours and ten minutes before bumping it...didn't really think it was that big a deal :D :D

All in fun...I fully understand the graciousness instructors and peers exhibit in this forum (ATI anyways). The last thing I want to do is seem unappreciative of their efforts. I hope I can help others as well. I taught golf for a number of years and a lot of what I taught translates very well to pool. We'll see I guess!

I joke around a lot. Text makes it difficult to tell what emotions a message is written with. I probably should have chilled like you advised. I did find it funny as I had just downed 20oz of diet coke and you were telling me to switch to decaf. I was like dang! Where's this guy at?!

Have a good one!

John is obviously very knowledgable on the subject, and if he's there in person that's great. I learned CTE/Pro1 last year and had numerous conversations and emails with Stan, Spidey, John, JoeyA, etc. to fill in some of the gaps. I use it exclusively now, it's a very seamless and integrated part of my game.

I've helped quite a few people with questions and assisting with them "getting" the whole thing. If you have questions, feel free to email or call.

Yes sir! Your school is definitely on my list. I play a lot of pool with Dwayne Payne and over the years have played a bit with Buddy Eick. They both have nothing but good to say about their experiences with you. I just need to work out some time off and requisition the funds from the Mrs. :)

Thank you for your time and response!

You missed a good tournament Felix! 76 players. I had a very good tournament! There were bounties on Dimick and Weaver. I won 3 of 4 bounties! Two of them in the final! :p

That said, I missed a lot of shots. My goal is to improve my consistency and that is my main reason for looking for a better way to aim.

To those who are looking to improve their kicking. I watched Joe Villalpando's dvd on kicking the night before the tournament. I had a two rail and one rail kick that fit right into what I learned from the dvd and my success on these kicks won two key games for me! http://pooliq.net/aboutdvd.htm

Finally...

I just had my ahha moment! I figured out what I was missing. I was starting with the cue at the center of the cue ball pointing at the edge of the object ball and then trying to figure out where I was supposed to pivot. Feel pretty silly now... :o:o:o
