Alcohol vs No Alcohol while shooting....

When I was in college many years ago, I played in the annual straight pool tournament. For my first round, I drew the top player who had won previously and was expected to win again. I was not nervous because I knew who he was and I expected to lose. He had never heard of me and was so overconfident that he showed up drunk. He and his buddies brought to the match another 12 pack, which they consumed pretty quickly. I won the match and didn’t have another difficult opponent until the semi-finals. So, I like drinking in pool when it is my opponent who is doing the drinking.

Just a little more info, I have a retail billiards store , we have been open for 9 years and I do okay there, I have extra space to put in about 5 tables 3 b-Boxs & 2 Nine ft., I do not drink anymore and in my area after 9pm only 21 and older can be in a alcohol establishment. We have about 4000+ college students in my town of 96000 about 900,000 people county wide. I'm open 11-6pm in the 8 months of the pool season we have and 11-5 summer months slow season. Any one have a travel league that goes to a place with no booze during there league session?

I used to play in a room in Miami called Abe's Billiard Congress. In the winter top players were there every night. Anybody may be playing, Ronnie Allen, Miz, Danny D, a zillion road players and so on.

Like you said when they got on the tables the place would shut down. This was a 25 table room and most tables would go off time if two players matched up. Abe was losing a fortune. He asked them to not start till around midnight.

The Congress became a 24 hour room, I don't think it was before that. From then on it was all night action. You would pull up to the place and could not find a place to park and this was like 2 am. For a young player wanting to learn it was like collage education in pool.

That wouldn't fly in today's world. Not many room owners would give up the $$ to host a money match. Most of the regulars in the majority of Pool Rooms today couldn't name 2 pro's.

And Ronnie was a big drinker, both on and off the table. As was Kieth. Two of the best........go figure.

When I go play the local weekly tourney I'll have 2 or 3 beers when I get there. I have to drive 30 minutes home and I know i'm going to be ther at least 5 or 6 hours. Gives me time to make sure my blood alchohol level is low enought to stay out of jail. I'm allergic to jail and like to drive.

I'll usually have one beer when I get to the room, just to wind down the work day and relax a little.

Then I'll have another while I'm playing my match, which I'll nurse though that match.

I don't usually have more than that on a night that I expect to be playing a match. A little is good to defuse the stress of the work day, but not to put me off.

Afterward I'm done playing, well that's another story. :p

where are you again that you're closed before sunset? I don't know of any room that would be open for 3 months with those kind of hours.

My retail store is closed at 6pm...i was thinking of adding some tables to some unused space and staying open later for the shooters.
