Alex Lely – is the real deal. (Currently Netherlands head coach)
January 19th 2016 Straight Pool / Fundamentals Training
A great player does not equal a great coach. Alex is both. He shares his insights into the game. What impressed me most was his process in teaching fundamentals. He empowers his students to improve on their own. I left his fundamental training with the confidence and the tools to improve my own game. He enrolls the student as an active participant in being their own teacher. Please forgive me for using the following cliché:
“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”
That was my impression of Alex's training and coaching philosophy/approach. He effectively coached at all levels of skill in my class.
Fortunately there were still openings at the Derby City Classic. Now that I have had a four hour lesson with Alex, I think I can place in each event…. Well maybe next year?
On that note I would bet that Alex has given coaching insights and/or advice to many players who will win or place at the Derby. The real question is, how many?
Thank you Alex. Also a shout out to Dennis Walsh for organizing Alex's second annual seminar teaching event here at Red Shoes. Lets hope Alex will be able to stop by again next year on his way to the Derby City Classic.
