Alex P. World Champion

Well thats cool. I saw him and Rodney Morris play here in Reno this year and it was an amazing match. They are both such comedians that it was very entertaining too.

Congrats to Alex! Finally he is not a bridesmaid at a major tournament, Alex must be so happy he's probably smiling from ear to ear right now.

He's prolly half lit already!

I watched the whole game and it was a very impressive performance by Alex.

He was a little nervous the first few games and maybe made 2 errors that were below form. Chang played almost flawlessly and broke very well leaving Alex mostly in his seat as he got to 10-4 and 11-6.

But where others might give up in the face of such a challenge the Lion picked up his game and took it to 11-11 with near perfect pool.

Then Chang got in for a shot and took 2 frames.

Alex's next chance he took by the throttle despite such a determined and quality opponent and he ran 5 to take the match.

Either of these guys would have taken out any pro who was not playing in their best superb form.

30 frames of pool (270 shots) and about 4 or 5 shots that seemed below top standard.

Most impressive was that both guys really seemed to have control over the break shot. That really makes a huge difference! Each won game was really worth 3-4 games because they had the break down pat and were playing confidently enough to finish the outs.

Alex really shone to come from 10-4 down. He shone also to go 10-5 up against Chao when Chao ran 5 in a row and made it hill-hill, Alex made one of the greatest outs you'll ever see, with two very couragaous shots that would be 1 in 3 for a top player, but both could have lost him the game.

Chang was great, Alex was a mighty warrior again!

When Alex was down 10-4 he had a very daunting task ahead of himself.Firstly he was playing a very determined underdog who was having the tournament of his life. Not only that, the underdog had virtually the whole (jammed packed partisan) crowd on his side, cheering on his every victory. They could smell blood and Alex was being slaughtered.Yes, it was Alex seemingley against the whole world.Furthermore he was dealing with the demons of past MAJOR tournament defeats, after finishing 2nd in last years WPC and the 2002 US Open.

No one including me knows exactly what he was thinking at that point(being down 10-4)however, it certainly wasn't a great situation to be in.No pool player wants to be known as the guy who couldn't win the big one.Yes Alex was in a very difficult situation and 10-4 could have easily become, "That's a big ten-four", which means, "game over baby".

But Alex THE LION valiantly battled back and would not be denied. No wonder they call him "THE LION." Today in Taipai he has certainly shown, that he has THE HEART OF A LION!!! Way to go Alex!

Congrats to "Alex Pagulayan the 2004 World Pool Champion"

2004 will be the year he will be able to look back on for more than one blessing!

Good going Alex!

Congrats Alex! I feel bad for Chang but man, Alex deserved this win. He's such a little fighter!

I agree completely. Alex deserved to win, especially after his previous runner-up finishes in the WPC and the US Open and his great victory over Chao in the semis. I feel a little bit sorry for Chang but 2nd place is still a great place to be especially since no one really thought he could make it that far, including himself! This would be the beginning of great things for him as now he'll be mentioned in the same breath as Chao and Yang. And besides, there's still next year. This year, though, is Alex's year. Congratulations!!!
