Alex runs 234

In the 2015 American Straight Pool Championship that just took place in Richmond,
Alex Pagulayan defeted Danny Barouty 100 - 16 in 1st round.
But later, lost to him in a 125 point match.

Beside that Alex's run is far more impressive than a 147. 147s are great but at the end of the day they are making 37 balls where 15 of them are respotted in the same place during the run. Really cool to watch but certainly not the same as running 200+ balls.

Hilarious.

Let's have an all-around for $1,000,000 you get Ronnie or whatever snooker pro you want.

Predictably boring.

Alex will likely crucify them in every pool game and might hold his own in snooker.

The first part of this sentence is clearly true, the second is laughable. Alex is a great pool player, but he couldn't even make it through Q school. On what planet is he holding his own against an elite snooker player?

Show me someone who can run all the reds and all yellows.

I've heard Alex Higgins actually used to play club players with this spot (he could only take reds and yellows) long after he had retired.

But in no way is it harder than running high packages in 9 and 10 ball, or high runs in straight pool in my opinion.

Again (again!!!) showing a complete lack of understanding of snooker. Give it up.

I joined this site a couple of weeks ago and it is very clear that JB is most hated on the site :bash:

I actually am so hated that I have azb'ers protesting in front of my house right now.

You're right, I am the most hated person ever on AZB.

But at least I have the ability to stand up here under my own name, John Barton, and not snipe from anonymous troll accounts.

:-) Opinions Jack. I could see a top snooker player winning with that spot. Alex P. spots regular players similarly big spots in pool.

I just feel that the amazing things Alex has done in pool over the various games are tougher than running 147s. AND I feel that if ALex had grown up playing snooker exclusively that he would have a lot of 147s of his own.

It will remain my opinion that stepping up and running 234 in 14.1 is more impressive than a 147.

John,

A pro like Alex running 234 on 4 1/2" pockets with no pressure is not that impressive or unexpected.

Can he do it on a continuous basis? I don't know?

But let's get down to the real important issues.

I say one should put their pants on left leg first. Do you agree?

Best Wishes.

I agree, what the hell does this have to do with alex running balls......always an infomercial with this guy.....please troll on facebook

For reasons that escape me, i have to use FB at work. For reasons that REALLY escape me, i happened upon Barton's page today. He has a nice little rant at the sad losers on azb - i like to think he had me in mind. :lovies:

If I rant on FB about a minority of people on AZB you are almost certainly included in any general criticism.

Just one 147.....not bad for a pool player.

....surprised you didn't tell JB about only 36 balls made in a maxi.

:grin-square::grin-square::grin-square:
several players run STRAIGHT POOL...
only a few maxi's ' in snooker....
Get them pool players on a 6x 12 snooker table and see how they like it"

Anyways, am i the only one who doesn't rate alex?

And there's not a chance he's had a maxi - have any of you actually seen him play snooker?

In a sea of inane statements seemingly made just to be contradictory this one ranks up there the most inane of them.

Mosconi ran a 526 on an 8ft table with 5.25" pockets and it is still celebrated as one of the greatest achievements in pool and has not been equaled officially since.

The denigration is strong with this one.

John,

There have been rather many that have run over 200... & 526 is more than double 234.

What are you talking about?

You're making it sound like the best thing since Mosconi or even better than Mosconi.

Maybe the air here is getting to you.

Best Wishes.

PS Did you miss or ignore the pant leg 'joke'?

PPS Alex is probably the best all around player at this time.

Rather many? Hmm, out of the millions of pool players world wide it seems we have found only 124 of them including the newest Alex Pagulayan.

By contrast it seems as if by February there have only been 114 official maximums recorded so I will amend my statement to say that these are similarly notable achievements.

Yet snooker players are far, far more skilled than pool players.

You are simply not comparing like with like.

No, they are not and Steve Davis himself said as much. Of course you know more than Steve Davis about these things.

Snooker players have a different task and all of their skills are honed to those tasks. Pool players do different things and equally amazing things in their own right.

I'd like to think that I speak for a majority of "pool players", even the majority on AZ, when I say that I appreciate skill in ALL cue sports and that includes snooker. Watching Ronnie play in his top form is amazing, and so is watching Alex, Efren, Scott, etc. You don't see them acting like a bunch of fools and tearing down other pro's like this, only the wannabes do this stupid crap.

So give it a break and watch all cue sports and try to learn something. Open your !$*(^# minds for a change.
