All Ebony joint/joint face?

I know that ebony has some very special qualities, and some of which I'm still unfamiliar with. I've seen a cue that has an all ebony joint, both the cue and the shaft are solid ebony, and not cored. Is this a bad practice?

PS, the joint pin threads into an insert in the shaft. The joint is 5/16-18 on this cue. Thanks, I've just never seen anyone do this without coring or just having an ebony sleeve in that area.

Thanks in advance to all/any help or insight.

I don't understand what you are statng here. Do you meen the joint on the butt and the coller on the shaft are solid Ebony or do you mean the entire butt and shaft are solid Ebony?

If it is just the joint and coller, just how are they attached to the butt and shaft if not cored? If the entire butt and shaft are solid Ebony then do you have a gun bearer carrying it for you? How do you know that it is Ebony and not some other black substance?

What I meant was the joint area. The joint and around 3/4 of an inch behind it looked to be ebony, but as you mentioned, it might be another material.
It just looks really gray and matches the handle alot tell me what you think:
