all new ranking system

I've devised a completely subjective ranking system that will hopefully eventually replace the A,B,C and 5,6,7 systems. These systems aren't necessarily useful to pool players in matching up - you know you always ask your friend 'hey man am I supposed to win this one? Oh well if you're so sure, take half my action'. So I've devised this ranking system for my personal use:

ATM - Can't win...against anyone. Except me. Watching this player occasionally makes me vomit...especially after he beats me. He rarely asks for a spot - and if he does it's the call eight or last two. His parents own a dealership though - and one of the older and wiser guys told him that he's gotta play everyone in order to 'get seasoned'.

Egg - I only got a ball on this guy, but I call him an egg anyways because my buddies (that can actually play) call him an egg - and I like to think I'm one of them - and thus a lot better than him. After we play, my buddies console me by saying things like 'dude I can't believe how many bad rolls you got' or 'man did you get roadracked'.

Strong - This poor guy plays even with me or maybe a ball better. Well I say he plays strong...since I think we're pretty even...and I play pretty strong...right?

Locksmith - This infuriating guy just won't give me the weight I'm looking for - and I won't give him the weight he's looking for. His friends and my friends are constantly barking about us 'having no heart' and/or 'being a locksmith'. No one really knows how well we actually matchup, just that he beat me evenup that one time we played - and now he doesn't want to give up the breaks and the 2 out. The nerve. My friends argue that he should be spotting me the world while his friends argue that our last set was 'pretty close'. This almost always results in no game and the locksmith and me each talking about how the other guy wussed out. This also sets off barking between my friends and his friends - which almost always ends in more talk about how 'those guys got no heart' and are a 'bunch of locksmiths'.

Worldbeater - The guy that plays the way I like to think I play. Everytime he runs a rack, I think to myself 'man that rack was so easy anyone could've got out'. When he asks me to play I tell him that I just got busted by a heartless locksmith, but that we'll play just as soon as I get that new tip...and the planets align.

I encourage everyone to use this sort of ranking system and hope that one day it makes matching up easier for all.

peace

That's not a new system! :D It's been used around here for ages! We should play some time. I wouldn't need much, maybe the break and the four? We can only play where I am comfortable, though, because you have an advantage everywhere else. ;)

nice post.

Obviously, the post of someone with a firm grip on pool, its culture and its personalities. I'll most definitely use this ranking system going forward.

Hehe I actually saw a guy in the derby city action room
asking for the breaks, the wild 5, and ball in hand after
the break. Someone offered him the breaks and the wild 5 and
he said 'I ain't no sucka, I only play with the breaks and
ball in hand'. There were a bunch of guys drooling over
giving him the spot he wanted though...and a hispanic(?) guy
stepped up for a few bills and played him 5 ahead. Mr.
orange crush with cream would break and blast balls at the
5 and 9. The hispanic guy was liking the action and other
people were trying to setup a game with the guy wanting
the spot. The hispanic guy got up 3 or 4 games, but then
all of a sudden the Mr. crush with cream started playing a
tad bit better and won the set. Someone told me to stay
away from that game cause the guy asking for the huge spot
is actually a B+ player and more than capable of running to
the 5. Are you this guy??? hehe

just thought I'd poke some fun at the thread about how to
tell if you're an A player, etc. :)
