All you toi guys how do you aim???

Rick,

I assume your parallel shift is less for the same angle when the CB to OB distance is greater?

Colin

Ahhhh........

Not an easy yes or no answer. You have to remember the speed component & the alignment component.

But for an understanding purpose the answer can be yes but I really don't think that is the desired solution. The extra distance allows for the squirt to move more in the lateral direction which would create more cut.

But one can do what CJ suggested to fix a bit of a problem that I was having. While making most of the very long, very thin cuts while aligning CTE, I was over cutting a couple to my amazement.

The thing is I could not go much less inside as I was using just the touch. So...what's the solution?

Well...CJ would actually go with CTC. But with my OB Pro Shaft I can't quite get that much squirt. So I'm going to go with aligning to the 1/4 ball line.

To me, TOI is a 'feel' method. Is that a misnomer? I don't think so.

Because it is, to me, it has many options to find a solution, simple alignments, plural but very few, variable tip offset, & speed variation.

That last one is where I may have been messing up on the couple of very long, very thin, cuts.

You see they were also rather far from the pocket, around 3 diamonds of the short rail. So... I may have been hitting them a bit TOO hard & getting full squirt with ZERO swerve even for that length of a shot.

Sorry. I could not make myself give you a simple yes answer.

Best 2 Ya,
Rick

PS What's a down under 'see ya later'?

My aiming is to see the path of the CB, as aligned and imagine if that path hits the OB into the pocket or thick or thin of it. If thick or thin, adjust as needed.

Have you ever been behind or in front of a ball traveling toward another ball and just been able to tell where that hit ball would be sent to? The mind perceives it, without thinking about ghost balls, fractions, edges etc. I think we just sense the geometry intuitively, strengthened by many observations.

The tricky part, is actually aligning to the path we perceive to be that required to pocket the ball, and/or perceiving the path from a distance.

Good Post, Colin

When I was very young & using english my focus was on the swerve with no real 'thought' of the squirt. I doubt that I even knew it was there. the squirt happened early & the swerve late. So my minds eye was 'seeing' the swerve as I was looking at the OB & not the CB.

IF I was a CB looker my minds eye may have focused on the squirt.

Intuition can be an awesome ally...even when it comes to aligning.

PS That actually means Good Luck.

PSS I'm still waiting for a down under 'see ya later' or something.
