Allen Hopkins Valley Forge 8-Ball Barbox Championships

I am confused. Is this tournament which is happening in several weeks the million-dollar bar box tournament that Allen Hopkins was going to have happen? I thought that was going to occur in August.

SINGLE ELIMINATION! YIKES!

No, that's a separate one and it's nine ball. He did one last summer or the summer before(CRS kicking in:rolleyes: ) Didn't look too successful to me, but what do I know, he's doing another one;)

It looks like a great event, and being that it's only about 2 hours for me, it is very inviting. :)

I wonder if the Radisson and the Scanticon are all filled up with vendors attending the event. I don't like staying at hotels off site. The parking is too brutal at this conference center. It is difficult to get a room at the Radisson adn Scanticon, if not impossible. I can't take all the miles and miles of walking anymore. It is so much more comfortable to have a room on site.

From the page:
Allen Hopkins Productions has arranged for discounted room rates for players and fans during the Valley Forge 8-Ball Barbox Championships. To secure a room, call the Scanticon or the Radisson at (888)267-1500, both of which are connected to the Convention Center. Be sure to mention the "Hopkins Valley Forge 8-Ball" to get the group rates.

Thanks for posting this, Claymont. :)

I don't see it listed on AzBilliards Tournament Calender on the Main Page, unless I missed it.

Somebody in Allen's camp needs to get a little PR going! I am usually pretty cognizant of what's happening nearby my neck of the woods.

I may just have to check into this event, if I can get a hotel on site. I refuse to stay off site and then have to walk the miles and miles like a mountain goat. :o

Jen, I didn't go last year, but from what I understand, this event is no where near as large as the SBE in March. There are only a handful of vendors. IIRC, there are some league events, so rooms may still be tight, but not as tight as for the SBE.
I believe it is free to enter and watch. Of course, there is a fee to play in the event.

If you go, please report back. At this point, I don't believe I'll be going, but I would like to know if it is worth considering in the future.

Thanks for the update. I just might go, depending on my work. Election years in D.C. in my racket are kind of funny, hot and cold. :D

I like the free admittance part, but single elimination is brutal, even if the entry fee is only 75 bucks. :p

I don't understand why it wasn't advertised better; I didn't find out it until a registration card arrived in the mail last week.
I live about 25 miles away, so I usually drive back and forth, but that drive gets a little long at four in the morning. With the gas prices going up, I just might consider staying this time.

I'll stop in. Were only 20 minutes away, so it's worth the trip. I don't really ever play on bar tables, so I doubt I'll play.....but I WILL have my cues with me! ;)
