do they really shoot with off the shelf Cuetecs? from what i have seen/heard/been told Allison does. however, Earl has modified his somewhat.

can anybody offer up any thoughts here? seems like the general concensus is that Custom Cues are better made and play better, so why wouldnt they play with some kind of custom?

regards,
M

Know any custom cue makers who are willing to pay what Cuetec pays Allison and Earl?

Because cuetec pays them to shoot with and promote there cues. I two custom cues and I am having another one built right now, but I have a production cue that shoots better than both of my customs ( jacoby, webb) they are both absolutely beautiful though.

i believe that earl and allison both like the cuetec cues. maybe they would get a custom judd, or chudy, if they were paid as much, this is true, however,i can't see earl of all people, staying with cuetec, if he really hated it! they are not paying him a million dollars to play with that thing, so, he's free to go, obvioulsy there are many, many other pros surviving out there, not useing cutec, so i truely believe, they think it plays well, otherwise, earl would have tossed it at steve tiptons head, years ago! as far as off the shelf, i believe so, however, earl has a custom taper, which he calls a secret, and allison's cue, is shorter than normal, to accomadate, her 5 foot 3 height, and she prefers a moori tip, not standard on cuetec. i tried her cue, and i found it was too solid a hit for my personal taste, i like a softer hit, and her cue feels like a mack truck hitting a compact car at top speed.

How does your production cue shoot better than the Jacoby and Webb if I might ask?

I got a good look at Allison;s cue when she was at the BCA Expo in New Orleans (2001) and I do know it did not have a stock shaft - had a wood shaft.

I played a "Challenge the Champ" match against Earl at the Midwest Open/Expo last year and viewed his cue up close.
His shaft is bare wood with no fiberglass coating , he also hacked off about 4 inches off the butt....I asked him why and he said it was useless extra weight
taking up space...?
One thing I can say he's a nice guy but a little strange...............

The short cue is so awesome! It allows for a person to hold the cue in the center of the palm with arm at 90 degrees to really guide the stroke strait as can be. I have a hacked cue that I played with when I did not have any other, and it is sweet to play with once I got used to it. I can really hit hard with minimal cue ball travel. The light short cue permits control by speed or soft as anything. I also love Earls shaft taper. I ordered a southwest56.5 inches no wrap a few months ago with slimmer butt and full taper to the joint. Too bad I will have to wait 6 years! i am also talking to Capone about one. i did not like Cuetec really. I like custom cues.

because in this sport you need all the sponsors you can get

Tiger Woods makes about $70 million a year in off course earnings, the bulk of which comes from Nike and Buick. Anybody have a good guess at all as to the possible amount of Earl's, Johnny's, Corey's, Allison's or anybodys earnings from a cue company or other sponsors in pool? Could it even be 6 figures?

i think i heard, that cuetec pays somewhere in the area of $50,000 a year each to allison and earl, which goes to entry fees and hotel and travel, not that much when you think about it.

who knows some people are sensitive about $$$ when it's talked about. But seriously road expenses and all that stuff plus a tournament that's probably will give you around $6k for first which is not even guranteed, sponsors are needed. And Nike they have money to burn...they signed Lebron James to millions of dollars even before he got in the NBA. Geez talk about a bonus. That guy can retire right now if he wanted to. Probably makes more than tiger woods.

I don't know about Allison but Earl makes a lot more than $50,000 per year from Cuetec and all of his shafts are made by a custom cuemaker.

Earl's shaft

Yep, I think Earl sands his taper down to constant 16" taper, which takes the "spine" off the cue. Take a look at his shaft wobbling from side to side in slow moting when he shoots with English... rarely ever see any other player's shaft with so much vibrations.

I had both cues before I went to work for Predator, the first show that we did, we had a predator 2 as a demo cue, during the tournament there would be alot of down time so we would shoot pool ( blood kicked my but at one pocket ) by the time I left I was so in love with that cue thta I had to have it. I work for Predator so I try not to get on here and preach, i just like to talk pool, but the predator 2 with the 10 piece spliced but like the shaft hits so differently then anything else, I love it. The guys that I play with all the time give me a hard time because I own prob. 10 cues, and all I shoot with is my plain black p2. The second I make contact with a ball I get great feed back, and know what is going on. Helps me alot on those days when I am not shooting well.

Don't know where you heard that. I asked Earl about the shafts and he mentioned that they were production Cuetecs that he sends out to have a cue guy re-taper.
