1st place : $16,000
2nd place: $ 8,500
3rd place :$ 7,000

That makes three years in a row the final went double hill at the Women's US Open:

2003 Karen Corr 7 GY Kim 6
2004 GY Kim 7 Karen Corr 6
2005 Allison Fisher 7 Karen Corr 6

It also means four different champions in the last four years, as Helena Thornfeldt prevailed at the 2002 US Open.

I have often noted that it would make the Women's US Open and the WPBA Nationals more special if more WPBA ranking points than the norm were awarded. At present, the exact same number of ranking points are awarded in all WPBA rankings events.

Golf and tennis, the two most visible individual sports, award far more ranking points in the events they consider their major championships. I've never really understood why the WPBA doesn't do the same.

I liked that idea.
