altering a shaft question

So im looking at another cue with ivory joints and ferrules, comes with two shafts, 1 rock maple and 1 laminated rock maple, both 12.5mm. personally, ive always shot better with thin shafts, my meucci has a shaft around 10.5-11mm id say, never seen a thinner one. I even learned on 13mm cues, but as soon as i tried out the thinner shaft, i just played better with it. I dont want to have a custom shaft made with the ivory joint, would there be any issues to taking one of the shafts to a cue maker and having it trimmed down? between the laminate and the non, would one hold up better at around 11mm? if some one has done this before it'd be great to hear from them

I've retapered shafts to as small as 11mm at the tip.
As long as you start out with straight shafts made from good maple, it shouldn't matter whether it is laminated or not - but they would probably not play the same.
My 2 cents,
Gary
