Sorry for the long rant, but my wife is tired if hearing about my new cue search lol.

Like many of you I was very saddened when I heard of the passing of Royce at OB. I have been using his products since they came out. I have always loved the way his shafts played, in my opinion they play much nicer than their predator counterparts. I loved the fact that they make their products in the USA and I always loved their passion to NOT compromise design and execution. I have various OB shafts for every cue I have had for the last 12 years or so and absolutely love the OB1's. In august I picked up a OB rift from Doc at the OB booth at the APA national tournament last year and have absolutely loved it. Not one shooter who has broke with it has had anything bad to say about it, and most fall instantly in love with it. Then my problem started.

I have an OB122 which I purchased from Sal Butera several years ago. I always liked the cue but did not love it. I really wanted a OB 1 for it as opposed to the OB XL he had modified to 12.75mm for me. So I finally ordered one figuring the ring work would be perfect as it is for their own cue. The finish on the ring work is terrible compared to their original shaft. It is dull ant the little silver bits look awful. It plays like I like but I was highly disappointed with the aesthetics of it. Still I wanted another OB cue with a nicer finish and had my heart set on a new OB135.

I started reading all the controversy regarding the direction of OB. I heard about Dale Perry's involvement. I have a couple guys in our pool room with perry cues and they are terrible to say the least. I read Shane's comment about how they are infact changing the way they build their cues and my heart broke. I should have acquired one when I had the chance.

I decided to begin to call dealers and try to find old stock, stock that was left from the Royce era. No luck, but I did begin to ask various distributors and dealers if things had begun to change ver the last year, And to a one, all said things have gone been going down hill for about a year. NO MORE OB for me. I wish I could continue to support the company, but I believe the writing is on the wall.

Changing direction, I decided I still wanted american so the search began. Tony at Tiger cues immediately impressed me. He answered all my question patiently and intelligently. My friend Diamond Dave who is a dealer said nothing but great things about the Tiger products. Made in the USA. I was sold. I ordered a LX TL2. 18.75oz, with a Ultra LD shaft and Sniper soft tip. I got it last night and spent a couple of hours shooting with it today. It is simply amazing. The feed back is so much better that the OB and Predator shafts I have played with in the past. Adjusting to the new shaft has been pretty painless, although I cannot seem to get as much draw with this combo as of yet. I may switch the tip out to my preferred Kamui clear. We will see. Everything else about the cue has been amazing and a significant step up from my previous equipment.Oh, and the extension is amazing. I really love it compared to the Mcdermott I had previously. So OB thanks for leading me into the welcoming arms of Tiger cues, and thanks Tony for getting me such a fantastic product.

I have the tiger ultra ld shaft, and has been my favorite so far. Didn't like the Predator 314 2, or the first Ob, the Ob classic wasn't bad, but the Tiger ultra ld plays really nice on my Schon. That said, every one has their own opinion.

Dont know if your still interested in finding a Royce made OB but im currently paying off a brand new OB 136 from omegabillards. They had a few left when I got mine. They dont advertise it because it was such a high demand cue as you probably know. If interested give them an e mail. Maybe your not a fan of wraps tho sense you were going with the 135.

You couldn't deal with a better guy than Tony. And he really stands behind his products. You might consider trying another Tiger tip as well. They make several different kinds and one of them may suit you better.

I tried an OB last year. After several returns, I gave up. I thought the classic played nicely, but I got tired of being the QC department.

Yeah, that is a nice Cue as well, but I really was looking for a wraps, and another cue is not in the cards at the moment. I purchased this as well today. If this is not appropriate, the mods can feel free to remove it! Between the knife which has cool ring work ant the cue I am on a budget freeze with the wifey lol.

That is a great looking cue !! And Tiger is a very stable and well established company.

Personally, I do not think there is better value in the new cue market today -- Tiger and Mezz are both very well put together cues available at a fair price point.

Enjoy your new player.

Now, that's a KNIFE! I wonder if the blade is Damascus steel?

This reads far too much like a payed advertisement, fuelled by rumors - and you only have 23 posts.
I think Tiger's construction is better than Predator's and the feel is also much better.
But then...

Sorry to contradict, the Sniper is not soft at all, and it's standard on the 12,75mm shafts.
The Sniper is a classic medium+ tip, it's definately not a even a medium. While at the beginning it's nice and bouncy it quickly loses this. So it's a medium+.
The Onyx can pass as a medium.

As far as Tiger goes, they are have crap business behaviour, enforcing MAP prices on end dealers.
And yes, the Onyx should cost ~20EUR? They are fscking crazy.

Cheers,
M

All makers have a price strategy for their products. Stop believing what you read on Barringers site...
My biggest problem with Tiger is that they went from using a standard Radial pin, to a bastard design of their own invention.

I love OB Stuff... I have had 5 OB Pool Cues and probably a dozen shafts over the years. Never had a issue. Them bringing in another cue maker for a short period of time as consultant doesn't bother me either. I'm not a fan of DP either. But I can't imagine their quality dropping.

I think people are reading way too much in to the Dale Perry thing. I have 2 OB break Cues currently, and 172 Prototype and a RB-1. All play great and look beautiful.

Yes, yet another joint type from Tiger. But so what?

Tiger will build you a cue with any type of joint you desire in any cue they make. They have a custom department, and their pricing to build your cue your way is very reasonable.

The new joint is just another option. Looks like a 3/8/ x 10 pin with a phonic insert in the shaft .. If you prefer a big pin joint, this new joint might be for you, If it isn't you can have any other joint you like -- Think you can do this with an outfit like Predator?

If you are looking for value, the Tiger Classic 2 series is mighty hard to beat. For around $500 the only comparable value in my opinion would be the Mezz EC7 series for the same kind of money.
