Am I a ball banger?

I don't know any way to convey my skill level, other than to tell you I am an APA skill level five, who is competitive as a five. Oh, and I shoot with a $2,000 custom Samsara cue. Lets not discount the superficial.

Does this get me out of the ball banger category?

Gregg, after seeing you play last week at the Green Room, I think your play alone disqualifies you from being a banger. You're definitely a better, smarter player than a a good % of APA 5's. By the way, do you ever need a cue sitter? :D

Gregg,I too have a $2000 cue PLUS a custom case but i have something on you still.I bet i can easily miss shots that you routinely pocket.Mike

Pardon my IGNORANCE but this “APA skill level five “ is Greek to me.

Think unless you are a Pro who NEVER MISSES a shot, or Post Shot Ball placement, you could say I hit it wrong, or Banged it.

Rather than EXECUTED the Shot Perfectly....:D

IMO anyone who actually thinks about the shot, thinks about their leave, and has some variance in the speed the shoot the cue ball with - that's the golden ticket out of Bangerville.

Just because you miss an easy shot here and there (I do it too, and I'm an APA 6) doesn't mean you're a banger - it just means you lost focus at that point.

I was playing my match last night, against a really freakin' tough 7 - and I was shooting pretty damn well, but every game, I'd make one mistake and the other guy would clean up. And every time I made that mistake, I realize that I let my mind get off the shot juuuuust enough that I borked it.

there was a You're a ballbanger if: thread about a month ago. I think by the time the thread dissapeared into retired thread land we all ended up being ballbangers in some way or another.

But since you have a $2000 cue, that would put you in the upper echelons of ballbangerhood.

enjoy :D

Hmmmmm is right. Not only are you guys close to my area, Mike knew who I was and saw me shoot!

I haven't figured out yet who Mike is, or never knew his last name. I am sure I would know if I saw him...time for a PM...

FYI...I never type anything I would never say to someone face to face. Look at a good example here why not to. Oh well, back to work.

breakup,
Nice interpretation of your position. We all thought you finished dead last in Alaska. Enjoy that beer (it's half full I'm sure).

Hmmmmmm... Might have to. But not this weekend, I've got an event up at Comet Billiards.

I would have to say that if all you play is barbox 8 ball and (perhaps) bar-box nine ball for the APA, then yeah. You are a ball-banger. Thats just my opinion though because I hate the APA.

Some food for thought.

So many people ask things like "am I this or that?" This is a famous story that I think *all* of us should consider:

A young boy once visited a legendary martial arts master.

"Honorable master,” asked the boy, “how long must I study to earn my black belt and become a martial artist?”

The teacher smiled. “5 years at least,” he replied.

“I want to be the best,” the boy added, “but 5 years is such a long time. What if I came to class every day and practiced two hours extra?”

“Ten years at least,” said the master.

“Ten years!” the boy echoed. “What if I trained day and night, seven days a week?”

The master shook his head. “Twenty, maybe thirty years would be required in that case.”

The boy was astonished. “How is it that the more I study the longer it will take?”

“You must understand,” said the master, “if you keep even one eye always on the destination, you will have only one eye with which to make the journey.”

If you are a true APA 5 you are beyond the level of being a ball banger and should be an intermediate level player with decent instinct and stroke.

The cue , however, gets no points in my book. I have a good friend who is a strong APA 7 who plays with a no name sneaky pete that he bought used for $30 and put a new tip on it.

By the same token , I know ball bangers who have thousands of dollars worth of playing cues, break cues, jump cues, etc., who would be better off using them for walking sticks.

Hey man, I apologize if I came off as having bad forum etiquette and being a little, um, forward. I tend to give myself credit for being much more memorable than I actually am sometimes.
