Am I crazy?

I have a dream of owning a sneaky pete jump/cue with an OB Classic (the one that's 12.75) shaft and a kamui hard tip.

I don't break that hard, but I'm just wondering if jumping and finesse play would be too difficult.

I just want a cue that looks like a house cue, but let's me break, play and jump, all at once.

Can anybody give me advice?

There are very few people who can jump full ball with a leather tip, there are also
very few people who can jump well with a low-deflection playing shaft.

Trying to jump with a low deflection playing shaft with a leather tip is going to be very, very hard.
Also, please realise virtually nobody is going to think any cue with an OB shaft is a house cue.

I would suggest something lika an Andy Gilbert jump/break with a very hard leather tip (like the
kamui black H or an ultraskin HH) and cut the tip down a few layers, then it should jump kind of ok.

Gotta have a phenolic tip on whatever you're jumping with. It's a night and day difference over any leather tip. If you don't want a separate jump cue, I'd at least use a jump/break with phenolic tip and then have an OB shaft on whatever you're shooting with. There's good reason why this is such a popular setup.

Find a good sneaky, get an OB shaft to fit, learn to kick. I don't think you'll find the OB suitable to jumping at all.

I'll advise a little differently. You can jump well with a White Diamond tip, which is not phenolic. I wouldn't play with one, but you can jump with one as well as breaking. If you insist on trying to play/break/jump with the same tip...my advice would be to go with a LePro. It's tried and true. Reliable and will probably hold it's shape as well as most other non-breaking tips thru the use of jumping and breaking. You can jump with one, although close jumps over full balls will be difficult. Good luck.

I think a lot of it will depend on ability. I got it handed to me by a guy borrowing a cue which was a BK2 with a phenolic tip on it. If I didn't know better and here a very distinct sound I wouldn't know he was shooting with a break cue. He could use great english regardless of what it was for shape. Bottom line is a phenolic tip is not ideal to shoot with but if you can run racks you can do it with any set up. I would be more concerned with the shaft. Jump cues can be fussy in that department.

i use a setup, an off the rack sneaky pete with a phenolic tip. i have broke with it and it plays as my regular cue. i personally do not jump but i am a better than average kicker. i have a disease much like rheumatoid arthrits but worse with multiple joint replacements so i shoot almost straight up. i switched to this setup a few years back and i can do pretty much what i used to do when i was younger and could get my lower to the cue. no tip problems, no ferrule problems, and i walk in with one cue. it is very durable and i can throw the cue ball anywhere on the table, but i choose not to as i play angles and as a result i usually only have to "stun" the cue ball to get the position i need. it may be a "vision thing"as i see patterns develop and my condition that has made me more adaptable with this setup, so venture at your own risk.

I disagree somewhat with some of the comments above: You definitely will be able to jump with a cue like that, as long as you don't try to jump a full ball from close distance. And some people could probably do that.

But here's the problem: since it is possible for the average player to jump partial balls with a regular cue, the reason people get a short jump cue is to jump full balls close distance. And if you put a regular tip with an OB shaft on it, you're effectively canceling out the benefit of the short cue, and making it very difficult to do what it is intended for.

Better, I think, to just do what SVB does and use a two-piece cue to break and play, and forget about breaking it down into a jump cue.

But if you decide to try it, there are plenty of three-piece jump/break cues in Sneaky-style. Just put an OB shaft with a hard-ish tip on it, and play away!
