Am I foolish shooting 8-Ball with 16 oz cue?

For many years I have been shooting with an 18 oz cue. I find it too heavy. Maybe my arm muscle mass is reduced since I turned 76. I have
finally found a cuemaker who is making me a 16 oz cue.
All my pool friends predict pool disaster for me since they all advise
18 oz or heavier.
Does anyone else find a 16 oz better for him/her ?

I don't think so at all, I recently built a 16.5 oz cue for a local A-Player, and this is the second one I have made for him. I have also reduced many cues for people to 16 or 17 oz, I think if it works for you nothing is more important.

By the way the people I was speaking of above, play all games with these cues, not just 8 Ball.

I use a 17.5 OB cue and my team mate Bob Vanover uses a 16.5 Meucci. I change from a 19oz to a lighter 17.5 cue 3 years ago and I can control the cue ball better. Thats why the make different weight cues. You have to go with what you fell in playability. If your cue has a weight bolt, get some different weight and try them until you find which one you can controll the action of the cue ball best.

Good luck

Everyone is different. If you prefer a lighter cue, that is what I would use (what ever you are most comfortable with). Cues are made in various weights for a reason.....so you can find the weight that suits you best. JMHO

If lighter works for you than so be it!

I remember hearing Dallas West say that he learned to use a lighter cue to get "in stroke" and then switched back to a slightly heavier cue. Based on the context I always assumed this implied when you don't play frequently a lighter cue helps you find your stroke. But once you find "it" switch back to your normal weight.
