The Super Bowl is the annual championship game of the National Football League. The game was created as part of a merger agreement between the NFL and its then-rival league, the American Football League (AFL). It was agreed that the two leagues' champion teams would play in the AFL–NFL World Championship Game until the merger was to officially begin in 1970.

League pool is a growing part of the sport in the United States. Do you think there will ever be cooperation for the major amateur leagues to put up their best? See APA National champions battle it out with BCA National champions, or CSI, TAP and VNEA.

The other thing that came out from the AFL-NFL merger was the Internal Revenue Service granting the NFL tax exempt status. Meaning they don't have to pay federal taxes. So, there may precedent for financial incentive.

Great idea. Not a chance of it ever happening. Can not even see Mark Griffin of BCAPL speaking with John Lewis of ACS let alone cooperating. How about Terry Bell of APA and Mark Griffin? Tom Elum of VNEA and Loyd Schonter of TAP? Each of these organizations want everything the way it is. Too much cooperation and their private "empire" disappears. Ain't gonna happen! Kind of like Coke and Pepsi. JMHO.

Kid...your post is a bit incorrect

Loyd Schonter, TAP founder, passed away suddenly on Dec. 31, 2013 of a massive heart attack. So since he isn't here to speak on this, let me speak in his behalf. Loyd never shirked away from having a TAP competition side by side with any league but to have a "super bowl" of sorts IMHO is pointless. Each league has a different handicapping system and in some cases no system, different rules and different agendas to grow their leagues. You don't see the NFL having a Super Bowl with the CFL or MLB playing the champ of the Japan league. Each league crowns their own champions and that is it. Let the players decide what league is best for them and try to win that leagues crown. What your saying sounds cool to see but in reality I believe it's pointless....Sam Rullo, TAP Sales Director

Knowing a bit about how the league systems were formed, I would disagree. The APA would cooperate with the others only if the others agreed to come under the control of the APA, using the APA copywritten rules, format, etc.

I base my opinion on experience with eight different league systems since 1966.

Sam,

Didn't run into you this year. Heard the RTTV event was great. Forgot who was running the TAP National office and looked at the website. Loyd's name is still listed there. Sorry. Regardless, your viewpoint is correct. Most league systems have a handicap system to "level" competition. Playing a league formatted without a handicap might result in a very one sided match. Not sure if TAP has one or not but an APA Masters team might be able to compete with a BCAPL Advanced team head to head. Would sure like to see that!!!!

I really appreciate the responses.

As Cardiac Kid pointed out, APA Masters can play the winners of BCA Nationals even up. This was kicking in my head for a while because there is no handicap issue to overcome, and in Las Vegas both leagues play on 7 foot tables. They can alternate rules between sets (APA, BCA).

In another thread, someone posted the score sheets for APA and TAP. Taking a look, except for SL2 v SL 7 matchups, the handicap works exactly the same. Which led to me thinking this technically could be doable. Alternate rules between sets.

Next month in New York City, three different tours are pooling their resources run a tournament known as the Ginky Memorial. These tournament directors (Tony Robles, John Leyman, Jose Burgos) have agreed on a single handicap scale and rules set to make single tournament tournament possible. I think this level of cooperation could be possible elsewhere in pool.

Cooperation between national sanctioning bodies is impossible. Even if we take the personalities out of the equation. The carrot being dangled in front of all of them is the Olympics. Should pool ever be integrated into the competition, one sanctioning body would have to be the lead group. Who's not going to want to be that group? We're talking about millions of dollars here. Travel funds, training facilities, etc. Love to see our game recognized but.... at what cost?
