Amsterdam East Goes Bye Bye

With the internet it only takes minutes.
Unfortunately, I never had the chance to play there, looks like I won’t either. Come to think about it, I never had the chance to play in New York either. I suppose I haven’t evolved enough to crawl out of the swamp yet. Oh well. It’s only been up until recently that my tadpole arms have developed enough to form a proper bridge.

There wasn't too much in the way of action and the table time was 1 1/2 times minimum wage, but it did have some great players as regulars. You'd be hard-pressed to find many poolrooms with a greater abundance of talent. At any one time there could be four or five 200-ball runners in straight pool at the joint ... Danny Barouty, Tony Robles, Ginky, Flaco Rodriguez, Steve Lipsky ...

Yep. The Fury World Summit was held at the East Side Amsterdam. It's bigger than the west side and more conducive to holding large tournaments like that.

Since Chelsea Billiards went "hip" and became a night club and now this. Amsterdam west is one of the few places in Manhattan left. Of course there is Corner Billiards. But now everything seems like it is moving to Queens. Masters Billiards is holding a $20K 9 ball tourney in August. Its a short ride on the #7 which I hope to attend. But nothing beats seeing top players compete in Manhattan. Nothing like seeing a group of pro pool players with their cues walking down Fifth Ave.

I wouldn't worry about the World Summit of Pool. Their initial plans were to hold this year's event at Grand Central Station and I would assume that's still the plan.
As for the tournaments, yes the Eastside location was the forum for many of the more recent events (Women's Fall Classic & the World Summit) but the Westside location has held them before and is well equipped for such. I'm certain that if the owners decide to put on an event, it will be top notch.
As for the regulars, Amsterdam is doing its best to encourage people to play at the Westside location. In fact, it may be even more exciting considering the players won't be split between going to one club versus the other. Even though I'll miss much of the staff I used to work with, as a pool player, I'm looking forward to the end result.
