As many of you know I play in a straight pool league on Monday nights at Kolby?s here in Tempe, AZ.

Last Monday I had the extreme pleasure of playing our very own BigCat. I have never played a more professional and courteous gentleman. On top of that he dresses very well and has some of the nicest hair I have ever seen. He was even so kind to spot me 64 balls in a race to 128. He whooped me 128-107 and put up a 33 that really put the pressure on me. He made it look easy moving the cue ball from shot to shot with ease and nudging clusters apart with the fine precision of a surgeon. He has one of the most awesome Tad's I have ever seen.

All in all I consider myself lucky to have been able to play on the same table as him. He is officially my hero and I aspire to be like him someday if I can only be so lucky.

Ray - YOU ARE THE MAN AND I AM NOT.

In all seriousness, I thought you played pretty smurphy :).

Nice post. There is a guy like that where I play. Just poetry in motion good solid play and talk about position, wow. When I grow up I want to be like John Amiss. I just hope other players have someone to emulate.

I will second all that. Some here may have witnessed the recent whooping Ray put on me on OTRTV. Most impressive was his professional demeanor and approach to the game. We need more dedicated players like Ray in this sport.

And my hat is off to you Brady for posting this. (You're going to get there soon, yourself.)

He's just sharking you with the nice clothes and hair.
If you weren't so busy checking him out you would've won.;)

Brady, I believe Ray's wife is prettier than him.

To bad Kolby's does not advertise their, straight pool league on Monday nights, as there is a renewed intrerest in 14/1.

Thanks for finding some sort of negative aspect from a great post Bruce. If you have anything else to add please just type it out and then before you hit post - delete it.

As you can see the title of the thread is "An ode to BigCat (Ray Robles). Please Read." Not "Bruce feel free to vomit your negativity".

Thanks,

BVal

I read your post.

Why don't you just STFU and stay out of this one. I posted an Ode to BigCat and the only thing that came out of your mouth was too bad something else didn't happen. This was supposed to be something nice for Ray and you come in there and post your dumbass little comment that has nothing to do with it. So do me a favor and stay the **** out of my thread. Start your own thread if you want to talk about something that has nothing to do with mine.

Thanks,

BVal

Cococuckoo,

You obviously have a problem with Kolby's, but do really think an international forum is the vehicle for slamming this place?
There seem to be a lot of great thing happening there (BVAL, FAST LENNY, JIMMYM, BIGCAT, ONTHERAILTV), yet you seem to be on the outside trying to hurt their action.

What gives?

Don't mind him. Like a man who wears Depends, he can't control himself.

LOL!!!

:D :D :D :D

Oh man, this is even better than I expected. HAHA... I can't stop laughing!

For all of those who have read this thread, Brady and myself had a little wager going on when he and I would play in our straight pool league. Well, it wasn't until very late in our league season that he and I were to play each other. The bet was that whoever lost the match would have to come on AZBilliard's forums and declare the other person the "better" player and pretty much pump their ego. Had I lost on Monday, I would have started a thread saying pretty much the same about Brady.

Well, I did end up winning, outrunning the 64 ball spot to 128. It was a very difficult win. What makes this wager even more interesting is that I am the person who introduced Brady to straight pool and even got him involved in the straight pool league. About six months ago, I agreed to play him and he wanted to learn 14.1. So I showed him some moves and strategies that I knew. He quickly picked up the game and started improving RAPIDLY. So for lack of a better word, Brady has "sort of" been my student/project (but without the structure of lessons and what not). So, all the while, I knew I was giving him ammunition to beat me come our straight pool league match.

Since then, Brady has been bumped from a 7 to an 8 (basically crossing that C to B line) in the Arizona Ratings systems, and has shown TREMENDOUS improvement in all games, which I believe is in large part due to him picking up the game of 14.1. Brady is a good guy and is quickly becoming a good player. Good on ya!

Thanks for the thread, Cheezy! As Jack said, that was definitely some funny shiat! Your end of the bet is now fulfilled ;). Respect!!!

Hey Bval I would suggest something that I have done...I have a made a promise that I will never post in any thread that a certain (un-named poster) has started and will never ever reply to any specific post of said un-named poster) and relayed that I expect the same courtesy from that said (un-named) poster.

(I am leaving out said un-named posters name out as I do not want to ruin said un-named poster reputation on this board)

My experience on this board has never been better since that promise.....;)

BTW - Nice tribute post to Big Cat .....even if it was a bet pay off it was still a correct statement.

Hey Ray,

It means a lot to me to hear you say those nice things about me. You introduced me to the game. You have worked with me on my stroke and shown me moves and drills so I can improve. I can't thank you enough for the time you have taken out of your days to work with me.

While I am at it I would like to thank Jack (breaknrun) and for working with me on my 1-pocket game. It is so cool to be able to play the game and ask what they are doing or what I should do and actually get answers.

I think it is awesome that some of the better players here in Arizona take the time to help others improve. I can't speak for anyone else but I truly appreciate it.

Ray FWIW - I meant every single thing I said except for the "nicest hair I have ever seen" :D:D:D While it is pretty smurphy it is not "the nicest". :)

Jack, we knew it was going to be good, but not this good :D.

Roger, thanks for the compliment.

Ed, CoCo definitely has many issues. Too bad he had to come in this thread and hijack it... AGAIN!

Jimmy, how does Friday at 3 sound for that group hug?

Dead Money, this was definitley a wager between the student and the master.

I was afraid it was going to go something like this - "When I left you I was but the learner, but now I am the master....
