Andy Gilbert Cues?

P.S. This would be a good time to let you all know that my Gilbert is for sale. 4 Ebony Points in Birdseye. 19.9oz, 12.5mm tip, SS piloted joint. Make me an offer I can't refuse.

Andy's cues are priced very attractively. But there are big differences between Andy's cues and Skips cues. The construction techniques aside, because thats a whole other thread. Both cues are very solid.

i can tell you this, andy's machine work is flawless,on par with southwest or bob manzino.he is one of the last cuemakers still doing a full sliced blank which is very labor intensive as opposed to inlaying points like most cuemakers do now.full spiced was the way that balabuska and szamboti made cues.the balance and hit of a gilbert is incredible, stiff but not hard hitting.i have narrowed my collection down to three cues, gilbert, southwest and one of the few WW cues that were made by greg willingham and steve kornele, these three cues i will not sell.

I didn't know that Gilbert's cues are full spliced. I guess you learn something new every day.

Rack,
After seeing some I believe that he means half splice. Not full splice like Hercek. Thats definately not what Andy does to the best of my knowledge.

I now own a Gilbert myself. Not too fancy, a 6 point, 3 high 3 low with a purpleheart forearm and butt, birdseye points veneers etc...
My last cue was a very high end Cog.., I have also owned many other custom cues but only keep one or two at a time.
Getting to my point, I absolutely love the hit of my Gilbert! Better than any other cue that I have ever owned. Of course just because I favor the hit, you may not. My opinion of his cues is that they are top notch. Stick with what you like. Hit with the cue before you decide. Don't trust an internet description.. FROM EXPERIENCE

...you might want to get a hold of this month's issue (July/August) of InsidePool Magazine. There's an article on Andy Gilbert, and a lot of eye candy to boot....

Fred,

If I am remembering correctly there was a cue in that article with ivory points. It looked like the same one that he had at the DCC in January. I would have liked to have bought it but unfortunately I did not have $3400 in my wallet.

My Gilbert cue

Sorry I don't have pics yet, but wanted to tell people that Andy Gilbert cues a bar none. I had Andy customize a Willie Hoppe two piece cue. He tapered the cue down to his specs added a Ivory joint with a 3/8 -10 pin, a delrin butt cap and added some Abalone inlays. The cue not only looks great, but hits great too.

I also wanted to let everyone know that Andy is a stand up guy. He really cares about his customers and was willing to take time out to discuss that many possiblities that could have been done.

If anyone wants a great playing cue...give him a call, you will not be disappointed.

Hey Joe,

To confirm, Andy Gilbert doesn't currently do full splice cues, but he is working on completing a setup that he'll be able to make full splice cues. He normally does half splice cues.

Fred,
Thats what I thought. I saw a few and they didn't strike me as full splices.

Hey Lisa,

Drop me an email when you get the chance. I have an semi-fancy Andy Gilbert cue in my collection. My buddy Jack has a Skip that he plays with and an Andy Gilbert Jump/Break cue. Both of us have Skips on order due with the coming month of August.
